Joseph Damiano is a Peer Support Specialist for the Arc Allegany-Steuben New York. He discusses what it means to be an advocate and what the advocates are working on in educating the local community on the developmental disabilities community and policy change.

February 21 to February 27 is "Through with Chew Week" which brings awareness to the issue of smokeless tobacco use. On February 25 it is Great American Spit Out, which smokeless tobacco users are encouraged to quit for one day. 

This episode covers the 45th Annual Great American Smokeout. Smoking is still the number one cause of preventable cause of death in the world. The podcast covers the importance of quitting for one day and how it can lead to becoming a successful former smoker. Ann Weaver discusses how different steps to become a successful former smoker and the use of nicotine replacement therapy the correct way. Ann also discusses ways people can go about their quitting journey on their own, but also how counseling can help. 

Seen Enough Tobacco Day is a New York State Tobacco Control Program day to make our communities aware of the  marketing tactics of the Tobacco Industry. This podcast has Tobacco Free Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany's Community Engagement Coordinator Ken Dahlgren. Ken discusses many topics dealing with tobacco use including, the need for some many laws dealing with tobacco products,  "the right or freedom to smoke", the role Menthol plays in getting people to start using tobacco products and keep them smoking, and the new laws that were passed in New York State dealing with issues of tobacco use.
