On this episode of Fishing the DMV we talk about all things flathead catfish on the Upper Potomac River with Pat O'Donnell.
Pat is an avid catfish angler who loves catching Flathead Catfish. Pat has agreed to come on the show to get some perspective as to why anglers love to target this creature in the best tactics that you can implement to increase your chances of success the next time you go Cat-fishing.
The relative abundance of flathead catfish was a little less than half of the channel catfish abundance during our surveys in 2021 when no flathead were collected in 2011. However, the relative abundance of flathead catfish in our surveys more than doubled in the five-year period between 2016 and 2021. This still represents a very rapid increase in flathead abundance.
