What is Akita bijin?  Beautiful 美(bi) Person 人(jin) = Bijin 美人

The idea that women from Akita Prefecture are extraordinarily beautiful has historic origins and is widely known among Japanese people across the country. One of the reasons for this idea is that women in Akita are thought to have generally fairer skin. Having fairer skin is, perhaps controversially, seen as more attractive in japan than having darker skin.

The reason for this fairer skin could be because the people in Akita are exposed to less sunlight and UV rays than most people in Japan because Akita is a prefecture in the north of the country. In the winter especially, Akita receives fewer daylight hours so people would have less sunlight exposure. This could also be because Akita is very cold in the winter, so people tend to stay indoors more.

　秋田の郷土料理は、きりたんぽです。沖縄の郷土料理は、ゴーヤチャンプルです。という風につかいます。

・判断基準  →　何かを判定するための条件や指標 　standards of judgment、criteria of judgment

本編では、日本でよく美人であると考えられているのは、「色が白い」「黒髪」というのが、判断基準のようです。という風に使ってます。これは、日焼けをしていない白い肌、黒い髪というのが、美人であるか美人でないかを判断する、一つの基準となっているという意味で使っていました。

例）私が車を選ぶ判断基準は、かっこいいデザインです。

例）マンションを選ぶ時の判断基準は、家賃です。

・独断と偏見

→　これは、何か公平な判断基準などがあるわけではなく、私の勝手な好みとか、趣味とか、私の勝手な判断で、選んでいるとか決めているという意味の言葉です。

二つの言葉独断という言葉と、偏見という言葉で構成されているので、分解して考えると、独断は　an arbitrary decision とか、on my own judgment. とかと訳されます。偏見は、(a) prejudiceとか、(a) biasと訳されます。

なので、私が勝手に選んでます！と言いたいときは、この独断と偏見で選んでます。のように使われることがあります。
