In Sixteen Years of Endometriosis

66: Our Relationship with Food. Part 2

Listen Later

Updated 1/2024. CW: Eating for comfort. Amy and Brittany examine their relationship with food. We talk about:
—the general and common practice of “eating our feelings” and using food to soothe our feelings instead of actually being with them
—the importance of learning to be with our feelings
—some tips for paying attention to food cravings to see if there is actually an “emotional craving” behind them
***Note: We don’t want this convo to play into diet culture and make us feel ashamed or guilty for eating for reasons besides hunger. Instead, we are just trying to better understand ourselves and have more awareness and mindfulness. As we (Brittany and Amy) get sick from most of the food we eat - especially from the salty and sweet snacks our emotions tend to crave - we personally don't want to be turning to food for bad day we have, because frequently flaring affects our mental health.
