Stay with me a minute here, I can’t help myself, but I always seem to take a roundabout way to get there. So even though I would like to hang out down by the lazy river, I gotcha, our hours together are precious and few. So let’s stay together, bang a gong, and get it on. Today, it is with great anticipation that we look for some footstompin’ music in the Billboard Top 40 from the Week of March 4, 1973. If we could get the nickel a song deal, that would be $2.00, adjusted for inflation that would be $14.31 today. We could finally get a piece of the American pie.

Do you remember the way we were in 1974? On nice days we enjoyed seasons in the sun, listening to the mockingbird love song, or perhaps catching spiders and snakes for the next show and tell. We were too young yet to join those guys smoking in the boys’ room. Those guys were probably hooked on a feeling of the last kiss they had with that special dark lady, that feeling which is so strong when you’re sixteen. In this episode we rock on and boogie down to the Billboard Top 40 from the Week of March 2, 1974. Thank god the energy crisis '74 didn’t reach the dance floor.

I’ve got to be real this week and ask some tough questions. I was made for dancing, and when I put on my dancing shoes, do ya think I’m sexy? Can you shake your groove thing; shake it like le freak that you are? Heaven knows, if you had the mind of the gambler, you might take a bet on the best song in the Billboard Top 40 from the Week of February 10th, 1979. Don’t hold back, you can do it!

Did your ego get so inflated during the 70’s that people would tell you after the last song on the radio that you’re so vain, you probably think that song was about you? Of course some guys would just make a funny face and say “well my name is Danny and that was in fact Danny’s song”. I didn’t have time for any of that, I had ants in my pants, and me and Mrs. Jones had a love jones for some jambalaya. Don’t expect me to be your friend; because I’m trouble man, and when it comes to dueling banjos, I am super fly. This week we go reelin’ and a rockin’ through the Billboard Top 40 from the Week of February 10th, 1973. It’s true that Momma don’t dance, but we are immune to both the rockin’ pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu.

If you could read my mind this week you’d say, we got to get you a woman. I am going through some lonely days. It’s impossible, but I swear I hear you knocking black magic woman, and I think I love you. You had better knock three times though, because that one man band next door is so loud, if I am in the rose garden, I might not hear you. This week we get up, get into it, and get involved in the Billboard Top 40 from the week of January 18, 1975. One bad apple don’t spoil this whole bunch of songs.

I may not write the songs, but occasionally I do like to sing a song. I am certainly sure of one thing, I love music! That’s why I was willing to spend a Saturday night reviewing the Billboard Top 40 from the week of January 10, 1976. Let’s do it again and rock and roll all night.

Please don’t let me be misunderstood, but isn’t it time to admit that when it comes to reviewing the AT40, we are the champions. I mean the very fact that you’re reading this means here you come again. Now I know what you’re saying, “you can’t turn me off in the middle of turning me on”. Well before you go slip slidin’ away to the point of no return, I’m saying baby come back to swing town. I mean, the way I feel tonight, I am confident to review the Billboard Top 40 from the week of January 7, 1978 my way.

Merry Christmas baby! It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially since I saw mommy kissing the little Saint Nick as they were rocking around the Christmas tree, or where they doing the Merry Christmas Polka? I forget which song they were dancing to, was it Silver Bells, or Jingle Bell Rock? I know I am really hoping for a white Christmas, so we can all go for a sleigh ride. There really is no place like home for the holidays, that’s why I’ll be home for Christmas. If something prevents that, it will be a blue Christmas for sure and all the pretty paper in the world won’t cover that up. One thing I am sure of; all I want for Christmas is an episode featuring the Watermark Productions compilation of the top 40 Christmas songs of all time from 1971 via Santa and the satellite radio.

We did a wild thing this week. Like something your '70s rock and roll beach baby brother might do after partaking in some of that wildwood weed. Call it my mistake, but I’m leaving it all up to you to decide whether it was good or bad. Don’t’ you worry bout’ a thing though, because as we relied on the lord’s prayer to guide us, we think the episode is worthy of a mighty love. Since we only did 25 songs, this week we sped like a jet through the bottom of the Billboard Top 100 songs of 1974. It’s so close to Christmas, you can almost hear those tubular sleigh bells now.

How was your love life back in 1979? Were you with someone who made you say “do that to me one more time”, or was it more like “no, enough is enough, don’t do me like that”? Maybe you had two bad relationships in a row and it felt like you were experiencing déjà vu’. Tired of all these head games you took the long way home as you planned your escape. With your new found freedom, you hoped to be third time lucky as you went out cruisin' the local dance club on ladies night. This is it, the Billboard Top 40 from the week of December 15st, 1979. As the decade ended, it was time for a cool change.
