- Pimp C Talks The Music IndustryPimp C Talks The Music IndustryPimp C Talks About Radio And PlaylistsThis video without Pimp C is almost eerie because he was speaking in the mid 2000s but it’s relevant today. He said 2 companies controlled the radio stations.2 companies controlled the playlists on those radio stations.Because of this, it was nearly impossible for an independent artist to get on the radio anymore. When at one time that wasn’t the case. This is the same thing going on today. The major labels control the major Spotify playlists.Spotify is owned by the major labels. They have adjusted the algorithm to not help independent playlists like they helped the major playlists. Because they want all of the attention to go to their playlists with their artists whose masters that they own.And independent artists are on the sidelines wondering how to figure it out.Playlisting still works.Listen.PLAYLISTING STILL WORKS.Click Here To Get Enrolled $2000 Music Marketing Course For Only $250 Today - https://www.group82university.com/enroll (Only 4 Slots Left)►► Click Here and Subscribe to the #1 music marketing channel on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/Doriangroup82...Sell My Course and I’ll Pay You $1,000►► Click link: https://www.group82university.com/affiliates200K THE HARD WAY►► CLICK SUBSCRIBE - https://www.youtube.com/Doriangroup82...=====================================================🎶 Do You Want More Music Business and Music Marketing Tips? ►► https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDMw_...►► Enroll In Our Top Rated Music Marketing Course: https://www.group82university.com►► Become A Group 82 University Affiliate and Make $1,000 Per Sale (50% Commission) - https://www.group82university.com/aff...►► TubeBuddy: How did I grow my YouTube Channel to 100,000 Subscribers and $70,000 in Revenue in 11 months? - Chance The Rapper Explains How Def Jam Screwed Over JeremihChance The Rapper Explains How Def Jam Screwed Over Jeremih@chancetherapper explains how @defjam screwed over @jeremihRecord Labels don’t want to see you win. They want to see their bottomline stay in the black. Regardless of what that means for your career, the only thing that matters is the bottomline staying in the black. They will suggest for you to collab with another artist on the label who’s creative spirit is the exact opposite from yours. They don’t care. They’ll eat off both of you. Or they will shelf you for 6 years like they did @jeremihHow does that help your career? It doesn’t. And they don’t care. @chancetherapper is giving you the sauce. We post videos everyday about staying independent. So what’s it going to take for you to build your brand and start making consistent money from your music? Why are you waiting? - That Time Suge Knight Muscled Up On Jimmy Iovine and InterscopeThat Time Suge Knight Muscled Up On Jimmy Iovine and InterscopeSuge Knight ain’t playKnow yourself, know your worth Nigga - DrakeFor all the mistakes he’s made, Suge Knight was a brilliant business man. He knew what he had with Dre and Snoop. He used that as leverage to get ownership of death row’s masters from the jump. He didn’t wait to re negotiate. He got it from the beginning. When you build a brand, you have leverage. And you can discuss business on your terms. If not, it doesn’t matter because you have all of the leverage. When you post consistent content, you get leverage. When you build a social media following, you get leverage. When you have 60 months of savings in your bank account, you build leverage. Never do business deals if you’re desperate. And if you have leverage, you’ve never desperate. - How Akon Stole Lady Gaga Away From Jimmy IovineHow Akon Stole Lady Gaga Away From Interscope RecordsSigning of the century. ✊🏽@Akon basically stole @Lady Gaga away from Interscope. They didn’t know what they had. He trusted his judgment. He didn’t want to spend resources searching and investing into a brand new talent when someone was already at a label. Gaga already knew how to record in a professional studio. She already knew how to write for other people. She already knew the music business was smoke and mirrors. She just wanted to get her chance. It’s like a big time high school b-ball player who goes to Duke and sits the bench for 2 years. When he transfers, he doesn’t care where it is. He wants to go where he is wanted and will get in the game. Gaga got in the game and blew tf up. This same philosophy applies to your business. Your music. Your social media strategy. Find shit that the audience is already receptive to. Put your own twist on it. And feed them. They are more likely to receive you more positively because of the familiarity. That’s why you have to study trends and human behavior. As sad as this is, collectively, human beings choose to be stupid. We choose to be followers. We choose to do what we think is cool as opposed to what we want. Use this to your advantage in your business and in your content. - J. Cole On Why His Album Sales Are So HighJ. Cole On Why His Album Sales Are So High@realcoleworld got signed off talent and talent alone. He didn’t have have any fans when he signed to @RocNation. He didn’t have a song that was a national phenomenon. “Lights Please” was moving around in industry circles, but for fans, no one knew who Cole was.@RocNation didn’t know the music industry was about to shift. So they had the old formula of getting signed, radio single, promote it, sell big records the first week and do it all over again. At this time, people were stealing music. So depending on radio promo to get heard wasn’t going to work.So what did he do?He BUILT A BRAND.How? Nonstop touring. Nonstop engagement with in-person connections. He actually touched his fans. Now, you don’t have to do that many shows to connect with the fans. You connect with them right now on social media.Playlists are cool, but you have to a build a brand. What are you doing to build a brand? What are you known for?Do your fans check on you everyday? Are they tagging you in videos? Are they DM’n all day with questions?Click the link and buy my “How To Market Your Music On Social Media” Course: www.group82university.comDo you want to make $5000/month from YouTube? - Waka On Most Independent Artists Don't KnowWaka On Most Independent Artists Don't KnowDid You Know This? 🤔“How do I build a team?”I used to ask myself this. And I used to think if I had a team, all my music/business issues would be solved. That was a lie. You don’t need a team until you are making money. Once you’re making money, you’ll know what you need help with. And that’s what you hire people for. You don’t need a manager. You need an intern who you can help mold and guide about your business. No one is going to save you in risk business. You aren’t playing the lottery. You have to work hard to get to the next spot. You have to work hard to get a bigger paycheck. And you gotta figure all of this out on your own. That handout mentality ain’t going to help you with nothing. Like @wakaflocka said, Distribution is digital now. No reason your music shouldn’t be on all platforms. Figure out how to do this on your own. Or you don’t deserve to get paid.
