The morning sun peeked through the curtains, painting bright stripes across C.J. Riva’s room. A single ray landed right on C.J.’s nose, tickling the child awake. C.J. smiled with a wide grin. Today was the day! Today, C.J. and their dad were going on a ferry adventure to see Nonna and Mimi!

C.J.’s grandparents lived in a house by the sea on one of the outlying islands. C.J. was excited to visit– excited for snuggles with Mimi in the hammock outside as they read together, and excited for Nonna’s warm hugs.  Nonna was always ready with a steaming cup of hot cocoa and one of her soft, knitted blankets if the sea air ever got a little too chilly.
