This episode showcases what many WW1 experts claim to be the climactic point of the war—Germany’s unleashing of unrestricted U-boat warfare and a subsequent telegram sent by their war minister Arthur Zimmermann. In early 1917, the United States was still strongly vying to remain a neutral country, and that is exactly the way Germany preferred it. But, due to a colossal blunder, the Germans end up, proverbially speaking, shooting themselves in the foot.
