October 31, 2021Fiona Lange Clean Face Strong Eyes poster competition.Fiona here promoting a poster competition through NT Primary Schools. The closing date is next Friday 29 October but some late stragglers will be ok. The promotion is to eliminate Trachoma which is a cause of blindness in many First Nations adults. There are up to 19 prizes of $1000 for schools and early learning centres. The main hygiene action for trachoma is to keep the face clean and provide functional bathrooms or wash stations. And what works for trachoma works for other infections too. Otitis media, gastro, respiratory and skin infections, and others can lead to chronic or fatal conditions such as rheumatic heart disease. Not to mention Covid-19. We provide resources for simple unified hygiene practices in schools to help young children see and hear better and to engage better when in the classroom. Our latest resource is a very cool 3D Augmented Reality App called the Spectacular App. More info here.Support the show: https://8ccc.com.au/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information....more16minPlay

October 30, 2021Lach Mckay (McKay Brothers)During the lockdown following the coronavirus pandemic, the brothers honed their skills and broadened their repertoire, practising on their Facebook live audience. This led to bookings from various clubs in the district – and due to their popularity, people began asking for a CD.They recorded their debut album with Tamworth-based singing chef and sound engineer Rob Breese at his Beaten Tracks Studio just outside the Country Music Capital. They laid down 15 songs, two originals and 13 covers. Good Times Will Come Again was penned by Geoff when he was 16, and it’s still relevant today. The words of the beautiful ballad, You’re Still Just 22, were sent to Lach by legendary bushman Kelly Dixon, which Lach put to music. Intended as a tribute to his wife of more than 40 years, Marion had no knowledge of the song and Kelly had not heard the melody Lach wove around his words. October 28, 2021Todd Barrow on Andy's Big BrekkyTodd’s music is no country for old men. While he undoubtedly draws his sonic influence from titans like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, his melodies skew modern. He plays almost every instrument, from piano to guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and drums, and the multi-instrumentalist doubles as a songwriter for himself as well as for other artists. “"If I can put a smile on someone’s face through song, well that just means the world to me,” he says. “I try to get to the real heart and soul of a song. To me, it's not just words but a story, and I do my best to portray that with every line. That’s my main draw to country music; the stories, the people, and the sincerity that comes from the heart." https://toddbarrowmusic.com/Support the show: https://8ccc.com.au/donateSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information....more32minPlay
