After 12 months at the helm, Barkly Regional Council CEO Chris Kelly has resigned with plans to return to QLD in the next week. Current Director of Community Services at BRC, Susan Steele, will step in as interim CEO throughout the recruitment process and this morning they both joined Barkly Radio Coordinator Shauna Upton in 8CCC's Tennant Creek Studio to discuss the changes.

Christopher Brocklebank took Big Brekky listeners on a tour into the Underworld and issued an invitation to go deeper with the performance of his play as part of the Desert Festival Fringe in 2025. On both weekends, tickets are available online for a 50 min theatre piece about descending and returning from the Underworld at 7.30 pm followed by decadent desserts and drinks at his Garden Palace Studio.

The Justice Reform Initiative Reinvestment Puzzle Conference 2025 was recently held in Mparntwe/Alice Springs and 8CCC attended the press conference with Chair of the Justice Reform Initiative board, Robert Tickner, Catherine Liddle, CEO at SNAICC and Tyson Carmody from Kings Narrative. 8CCC Big Brekky had a chance to catch up with Bron from Golden Orb to talk about Desert Festival's Togetherness: Transcendiary Special on 4th July from 8.30pm at the Black Wreath. Live music from Anomaly and Slumbi who join Golden Orb, plus DJs and electronic music to create a beautiful event supportive of the the trans and queer community in Mparntwe.

Citing that many people may not know the threats from residential fireworks, they shared with listeners the potential harms to wildlife and companion animals and pets, as well as the real danger of sparking fires on the buffel fuel loads that surround Mparntwe. They advocate for everyone to join in the organised Territory Day celebrations at Anzac Oval instead.

Territory Day celebrations kick off across the NT tomorrow night including at the Barkly Arts Yard in Tennant Creek. Last Friday, 27 June the NT Music Industry descended on Mparntwe/Alice Springs for the 2025 NT Music Awards. Amongst the many awards for best songs, festivals, photographers and techs, there were a few clear standout winners including Darwin-based punk trio TANG who took out the Peoples' Choice Song of the Year and Best Rock Song of the Year, as well as performing live for an attentive crowd. Drummer and stylist of the band, Alana White, joined us on the Big Brekky Program to relive the exciting night and let us know what's next for TANG.

Raymond Walters Penangke & Peta-Lee Cole-Manolis from Penangke are running a specialised cultural awareness workshop designed exclusively for managers and leaders working in the disability sector at Desert Knowledge Precinct next Tuesday July 1 from 9am. Delivered by Central Desert Aboriginal facilitators, this interactive session is tailored to enhance organisations’ capacity to provide culturally responsive disability services to Aboriginal people in the Central region. They spoke with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson more broadly about the work to be done in this area for all organisations and how they also learn from these exchanges.
