Lucy McGary is coordinating the exciting next stage of "Our Community Shed'' in Tennant Creek. This project has been in the making for five years, with the help of generous philanthropists and volunteers and is now a registered charity. The shed is prominently on the highway, with spaces for community events, workshops and meetings, with large office spaces to be used by community members or organisations. 

Our Community Shed is not going to duplicate services that are offered by anyone else, but its purpose is to connect with the community that are looking to share their interests amongst each other. 

They're open for visits Wednesdays, Thursday & Fridays and Lucy's happy to announce their Grand Opening on the 12th of December.

Adam Drake - Australian of the Year nominee, is moved to give support to the Youth in Tennant Creek. 

After some traveling and searching in LA, he was able to discover and find ways to help Youth that have lost their way in life. He's been able to run the ISEP Program in Tennant Creek with hopes to get better results within Youth Crime.

At Sunday's Pine Gap peaceful vigil, the Greens Senator David Shoebridge was asked by the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network (IPAN)'s Jonathan Pilbrow to speak of the importance of Australia signing on to the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty (as the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) is commonly referred). The event was well attended by a wide range of concerned and dedicated local citizens.

Senator Shoebridge holds the Greens portfolios of Foreign Affairs, Peace & Nuclear Disarmament & Defence & Veterans Affairs. In his reply, he refers to the Defence Minister Richard Marles' description of the recent Indo-Pacific International Maritime Expo as “an incredible display of what our industry can produce; awesome power, ingenious autonomous systems and craft of all shapes and sizes which span the breadth of the beautiful, the menacing and the extremely cool."

Senator David Shoebridge addressed this weekend's vigil on Hatt Rd where locals, led by Mparntwe for Falastin, met to highlight and protest the failed ceasefire and the complicity of Australia, through Pine Gap, in the ongoing genocide of Palestinian people. Senator Shoebridge is Greens spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Peace & Nuclear Disarmament and Defence. He laid out the historical and operational perspective of the impact of this US base, including the links to Prime Minister Whitlam's dismissal 50 years ago today.

Annette Brownlie, founding member of the Brisbane-based community peace organization Just Peace Queensland and the current and inaugural chair of IPAN, Independent and Peaceful Australia Network, spoke with 8CCC's Kate Lyons-Dawson following the Four Corners investigation aired this week. ABC's Four Corners report reveals security threats arising from the Australia/US Alliance that are increasing the risk of Australia becoming a nuclear target.

IPAN believe the Labor Government has had four years in power to put in place the necessary pre-conditions for signing the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), and must finally act on commitments previously made. They are joining ICAN in asking for greater transparency and to obtain security using our own resources and with our regional neighbours and economic partners.

Alice Springs is flipping the script with a new community campaign designed to grow giving and support local initiatives. 

The Mparntwe Alice Springs Community Foundation has launched Give2Give, a community-wide giving program that connects local donors with grassroots groups and people already #GettingGoodStuffDone. 

 Thanks to a generous local donor covering all administration costs, 100% of funds raised go directly into the community. 

 Givers can choose to support one of three streams: 

• Strengthening existing community Good Stuff 

• Supporting new initiatives 

• Events that build community connection 

… or they can contribute to the General Fund, where funds will go to where there’s greatest community demand. 

Community groups, clubs, and do-ers are invited to submit simple Expressions of Interest (EOIs) between October 21 and November 20, 2025. EOIs will be received by the Give2Give Community Working Group and selected EOIs will be invited to expand into short proposals. Funding will typically range between $1,000–$10,000 per initiative, depending on funds raised.

“All of us want to see Alice Springs strong and connected. Give2Give is a way for locals to back locals — every dollar builds confidence, cohesion, and connection,” said Nicole Walsh, Community Lead of the Give2Give Working Group. 

Funding decisions will be determined by the Give2Give Working Group made up of respected local leaders and Foundation board members, ensuring fairness, integrity, and transparency. 

Give2Give was launched 21 October at Community@Sunset, an event co-hosted by Yeperenye and the Chamber of Commerce NT.

Pasa Faho is a play on words - Parts of a whole - which takes place in Naarm centring around a father and son. It's also about an expansive community and the most primal feelings which exist in each of us.

Vital Collective member Meret and lawyer Kieran visited 8CCC Brekky Show to alert people to today's Anti-Discrimination Amendment Act being put before NT Parliament after having been pulled from debate last month. Advocates were given little time to prepare and inform the community, as the announcement came at the last minute. The NT Government has faced considerable backlash from all sectors of the community.

"The proposed changes will weaken the anti discrimination laws allowing for the increased hate speech and religious discrimination. This targets First Nations people, women, people of colour, Sistergirl, Brotherboy, LGBTIQAP+ people, all marginalised people, our education system and all people living in the NT." Quote from Vital Collective, based in Mparntwe Alice Springs, which have been been circulating a petition to be tabled at NT Parliament, with over 1000 signatures.
