Pioneer Football Club, a sporting club since 1947, holds community, strength and culture close to heart. They recently received an Aboriginal Investment NT Community Quick Response Grant which they utilised in new sporting equipment, designed new uniforms and support for players to take to the field with confidence and safety. Aboriginal Investment NT CEO Nigel Browne spoke on the Brekky Show about the benefits of the Quick Response Grants.

John Wright, Nursing Education & Research Coordinator at Tennant Creek Hospital, raised concerns around syphilis testing now that the sexually transmitted disease is on the rise in the NT. The Chief Medical Officer has declared syphilis a Communicable Disease Incident of National Significance (CDINS) within Australia. John spoke on 8CCC Brekky Show about the disease, busting myths and offering information on where to get tested. It's especially important for anyone pregnant or sexually active, as you may not realise you have the disease and it's easy to treat.

Barkly Mayor Sid Vashist dropped into the 8CCC Tennant Creek studio to introduce Deputy Mayor Valda Napurrurla Shannon Warntaparri and to release the new summertime hours and programs.
The pool will be free for all under 18 years, the library will offer films and activities throughout the holidays.

Valda previously worked with the Mental Health Association of Central Australia (MHACA), where she helped develop Suicide Story, an Elders-led suicide prevention program grounded in local cultural knowledge. She speaks and understands several Aboriginal languages and dialects across Central Australia and the Barkly, and has served as a Warlpiri/Warumungu interpreter with the Northern Territory Aboriginal Interpreter Service. Valda currently represents Patta Ward on Barkly Regional Council.

Healthy Living NT's Helen Lamech has taken out the NT News Territory Leader of the Year for 2025!

Her work for more than 30 years was recognised when she was awarded the Health and Wellbeing Leader, before being announced as the year's Territory winner. Earlier this year, Helen was named the 2025 Jan Baldwin National Credentialled Diabetes Educator at the Australasian Diabetes Congress, and at the recent 2025 NT PH Network health professional of the year awards, she took home the Administrator’s Medal for Health Professional of the Year and NT Health’s Nurse/Midwife of the Year.

Whether it's building a community of people with lived experience or advocating for patients, Helen Lamech empowers individuals and families to take control of their health and advocates for accessible, patient-centred care.

Big news includes the announcement of the public library's new site, Sitzler awarded the contract for the CBD Regeneration project and how the new council has been progressing together. Also discussed was the proposed liquor law changes, with submissions open to the public until 18 December. Other items: the council has also renewed the lease on Alice Springs 50 Plus Community Centre with the lease terms including a five-year period with the option for a further five years, at a rent of $1 per year; local artist Chris Scott of Brushcraft has been appointed to create 
the Geoff Miers Commemorative Roundabout public artwork. This concept stood out for the way it 
honours Geoff’s legacy while embracing the beauty of the Sturt’s Desert Pea; Council has supported a motion to explore the possibility of re-establishing a Committee of People with Disability.
