I’m in line at a fast food place.  I won’t say the name, but it’s a WHOPPER of a place. Anyway, I’m looking the menu over and the woman in the car behind me, a sweet Jaguar is losing her SHIT that I’m taking this long.  Honking, yelling out her window that my fat-ass should be eating salad. She’s too important to wait this long.. blah blah blah.  So I order, pull forward to the first window to pay. 

Soccer mom order’s her food and revs up right behind me.  The young kid comes to take my money at window one and I tell them, look…let me pay for the car behind me as well.  I make it obvious as I lean out the window, point at her, point at me and make the “money” sign with my fingers.  The kid said…”sir…she’s really mean!” I told them…every so often, do something unexpected to make people smile during a bad day.  She’s looking like she feels really bad now.  Leans out and says, “I APOLOGIZE”. And all that. 

So, I paid, asked for the receipts and went to the next window.  I told the kid there I paid for both orders, so give them to me.  They did and I drive off with my food and hers.  Making her go through the line again if she wants to eat.  Needless to say,…I’m now known at that particular drive through, and my order is ALWAYS correct!  It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice!!!!! My fat-ass should eat salad, but damn your chicken sandwich was the BEST I ever had! 

Zeke has difficulty adjusting to his new role as station manager, things between Joyclyn and Bass come to a head and Sydney is officially introduced to the barn team.

I put a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on my front door, but it blew away. Now I’m being disturbed by wind. Wind doesn’t read, it just disrespects boundaries!

We pick up season 4 one month after the start of winter season. The station is getting used to the isolation and new routines. A new leader is selected to run the station, and we check in on the Atlas team preparations for “Event Four.”

You know, the city never sleeps, and neither do its secrets. Just when you think you’ve unraveled one thread, a dozen more tangle up the night. Tonight, I wrapped up another case—another mystery swallowed by the shadows. 

But it’s not all bad. There’s a light waiting for me, a warm smile that cuts through the fog like a lighthouse on a stormy sea. She’s out there, probably wondering if I’ll show, maybe even pouring a drink just for me.

So, as I step out into the night, the world feels heavy on my shoulders, but my heart’s a little lighter. I’ll take on the next case when it comes knocking, but for now, it’s time to find my girl and let the city fade into the background. After all, every hard-boiled detective needs a soft place to land.
