95bFM: Border Radio

Kirsten's back with lots of women's music. And Black lives matter, lots of Black artists and new releases. Plus a bit of history.

This was a heap of fun, weaving in and out of a latin vibe. From way, way down past the border Peru, Mexico 60's Spanish garagey to Californian Surf music. THrew in a bit of Joni, Neil, Emmylou and Linda. My new favorites Sammy Brue and Elisa Pernu, fresh Best Coast and Drive By Truckers covering the Ramones.

Special guest bumping around in the studio tonight, Louis Jarlov. He's talking an upcoming show with Tony Daunt and The Dauntless, but also spinning a few tunes. And we're still going hard on brand new Sammy Brue and Drive by Truckers. Discovered Michael Van and The Movers - a cool tune called 'Not coutry enough' and classics thrown in as well like Jerry Jeff and Emmylou.

Ian Tucker came in to play some old school folk on vinyl and we had a good strange time....... Happy New Year to y'all. Phil Och's , Tom Rush , Tom Paxton , Hoyt Axton and more.... THERE COULD BE CHANGES AFOOT 2021! Watch this space.

Bernie Griffen is more than ably assisted by Garth Cartwright. Garth is the author of the book 'More Miles Than Money', a trip through the Southwest of the United States catching up with the old performers. One of whom was lydia Mendoza who was in her 90's when Garth spoke to her. It's a few years old now , the book , but in my opinion one of the loveliest dissertations on the love of Routes music i have ever read. He is in NZ for 3 months and will do another show with me sometime in February celebrating the 60th anniversary of Arhoolie Records. So "listen up" , that too will be a great show. Next week I have Ian Tucker up on the show to play his endless collection of vinyl. Happy New Year!

Last show for the year with a slightly reflective, christmassy vibe and a few favorites from the year. New Marlon, and special recorded in the lounge Marlon. A few from both of the Drive By Truckers 2020 albums, and a couple from new favorite son of the border radio show, Sammy Brue. Brand new Kendal Elise and yes, a special xmas cover of Wham by Taylor Swift.

Kirsten's back in the studio. Lots of women on the show tonight, why not, they're fantastic!

The wonderful sounds of Iris De ment and Greg Brown , The Kingston Trio, Felice Brothers, Blaze Foley , Townes Van Zandt and a plethora of new releases from Mandolin Orange , Scott H Biram and Chris Stapleton........ Any Questions email 95BFM....

Two guests on the show this week ! Both with new singles out ! A chat to Barry Saunders about the new Warratahs song, New World and play a couple from the catalogue, and Dianne Swann in the studio to talk about her new one - These are the days. Plus tracks off a new Jason Molina collection, my boy Sammy Brue, Adam Hattaway and the Haunters, Drive by truckers and Hackensaw Boys, The Growlers and Ryan Bingham...

Birthday honours, it's Kirsten's birthday! New releases, old faves, goodbye to two of the giants of the gentre, Jerry Jeff Walker and billy Joe Shaver.
