95bFM: Border Radio

Bugger it. Neil Young special. About 50/50 Neil doing the songs and other people covering them. Because we can.

Kirsten Warner's in the studio with lots of Hank Williams and some classic roots music, folk, country, blues and gospel. What more could you want?

The unravelling of America. The show tonight inspired by what is essentially a pretty sad article from rolling stone.com Songs about melting down. Heavy stuff from Bohannons and Drive by Truckers, Eliza Gilkyson. Includes fresh observations from Sammy Brue, prophetic Neil Young from On The Beach, dark, dark, SOngs:Ohia and the genius of Purple Mountains, all lightened up with a shot of Linda Rondstat. (Check how the second verse in Poor Poor Pitiful Me could be a #metoo song). That marathon new Bob Dylan track Murder Most Foul and then some thoughts and prayers towards the end with Cowboy Junkies and Los Lobos.

Kirsten Warner plays some classic blues, folk, soul, gospel and country. What's not to like?

A different vibe tonight with special guest Dan Sperber and his new slightly jazzy pedal steeley touch folky approach. We talk about his record and upcoming show and play tunes the likes of we've nevver heard before, as well as a few familiar friends.

Mixed bag for sure. Rory Gallagher, John Lee, Muddy & Townes mixed in with brand new tunes from the newly renamed Chicks, Brooke Taylor & Hayley Thompson-King. Some classic old kiwi shizz from Glen Moffat and The Sou'westers as well as continuing to froth over Purple Mountains and The Drive By Truckers latest. Emmylou too.

Kirsten takes another good llisten to new Black soul, blues and roots music, plus new tracks from Bob Dylan and  PJ Harvey. Lots to like.

Heaps of fun with a naming convention."Someone someone 'and the' something something". Starts and ends with Jason and The Scorchers, and a heap in between.

Plenty of new Black music, plus some classic country tunes. A feast.
