RM is one of Tāmaki’s wonderful artist-run spaces, spanning a nearly three decade history of supporting local emerging artists. Making it the longest running artist-run-space here in Aotearoa, being established in 1997. With the gallery moving through various iterations and spaces, previously named rm3, rm212, rm401, and rm103, shifting and evolving as the initiative moved throughout Tāmaki. Seeking to engage a wide range of practices, and modes of presentation that are not as easily accessible within Tāmaki.

RM’s current pop up exhibition THE ARCHIVE located offsite from the gallery, Just beyond the Beresford entrance of the Karanga-a-hape station, with support from the Karangahape business association, Auckland transport, Auckland council, and Creative New Zealand.

The exhibition itself pulls on RM’s extensive archival material, presenting a range of pieces and ephemera from RMs own archive. Showcasing the gallery's rich history as an artist-run-space, as well placing these various archival materials in a space of re-invigoration. Asking us to not only view the archive as a form of documentation, but as an active site of discovery that plays a vital role within the current arts community and beyond. 

Maya caught up with one of the current members of the RM cooperative, Taarn Scott about the Galleries pop up exhibition, as well as RMs overall exhibitions and events planned for the Karangahape Art Weekend.
