95bFM: Travelling Tunes

Dr. Kirsten Zemke brings us Two-Step, a genre between disco and before dubstep (roughly). Featuring on Shanks & Bigfoot's Sweet Like Chocolate, Zed Bias's Neighbourhood, Wookie & Lain's Joy My Pride. It's a bop.

Dr. Kirsten Zemke brings up Two Tone Ska for Rachel and Tess to have with their Breakfast. Featuring The Specials Too Much Too Young, Madness One Step Beyond, and The Selector On my Radio. You're welcome.

Dr. Kirsten Zemke brings us some uplifting pop beats to cheer us all up on this rainy Friday. Bubblegum features on 1910 Fruitgum Company's Simon Says, Ohio Express's Yummy Yummy Yummy, and The Archies' Sugar, Sugar.

Rachel's so ready for this morning topic, Dr. Kirsten Zemke is bringing Hi-NRG into the studio. It's a bop. Featuring Danny Boy & The Serious Party God's Castro Boy, Patrick Cowley's I Wanna Take You Home, and Sylvester's Don't Stop.

Dr. Kirsten Zemke brings in a personal fave today, Do Wop. We're all being swooned by Gene Chandler's Duke of Earl, The Flamingos' I Only Have Eyes For You, and The Silhouettes' Get A Job. Beautiful.

This morning we're talking Math Rock, Dr. Kirsten Zemke's here to educate us and find a facet of music that will shock the listeners. Unfortunately for Kirsten, the listeners are very familiar with this genre, from Don Caballero's Fire Back About Your New Baby's Sex, to Giraffes? Giraffes!'s When The Catholic Girls Go Camping, the Nicotine Vampires Rule Supreme, and Hella's Biblical Violence.

Dr. Kirsten Zemke compares City Pop to Yacht Rock in it's catchy, uplifting style. Miki Matsubara's 真夜中のドア / Stay with me, Makoto Matushita's First Light, and Lucky Tapes' レイディ・ブルース. The songs say it all.

A genre that Dr. Kirsten Zemke describes as a blimp on the music radar, Romo, is polarising in the internet world but we're pretty fond of it here on Breakfast. Featuring in a small selection of recorded music on Sexus's Longing Without Belonging, David Devant and His Spirit Wife's Ginger, and Orlando's Just For a Second.

Ahh, yes, electroswing, the polarising meld between EDM and swing dancing. For some, Dr. Kirsten Zemke, it just works and for others, Rachel, not so much. Featuring on Caravan Palace's Beatophone, Right Said Fred Let's Face the Music and Dance, The Swing Bot's Shake Like It's Coming On, you be the judge.

Ahh, NZ Country Music, there's a lot to be said for this genre. But Dr. Kirsten Zemke reckons the music speaks for itself, with Delaney Davidson & Barry Saunders' Stolen River, Pasty Rigger's Beautiful Lady, and Prince Tui Teka's Moe Mai E Hine.
