Jamie and Kristy cover Part 1 of the disappearance of 14-year-old Ashley Summers in Cleveland, Ohio, in July 2007. They outline Ashley’s strained home life with her mom Jennifer, her relationship with 16-year-old boyfriend Jean Gill, and how she began staying with great-uncle Kevin after conflict at home. Ashley had previously run away in January 2007. Her last known day is disputed (reports range from July 4–8); she was reportedly seen at a family birthday party on July 4 and said she was walking to Aunt Chris’s house but never arrived. Kevin later claimed a fight occurred and he broke her phone before Ashley packed belongings and left. Jennifer didn’t realize Ashley was missing for days due to family confusion, filed a report July 9, and police initially treated it as a runaway. A month later Jennifer received a brief call from someone she believed was Ashley. In 2008 the FBI reexamined the case due to parallels with nearby disappearances of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus.
