Mitchell interviews Ret. Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell under President GW Bush, on the subject of the Trump Presidency, and the effects of this President’s policies here and abroad, with specific focus on the change and re-alignment of the geo-political landscape.

Wilkerson is the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Government and Public Policy at the nation’s oldest public university, The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he has taught for the past fifteen years. Previously, while serving in the US Army for 31 years, he also taught at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island and the Marine Corps War College in Quantico, Virginia.  Positions he has held outside teaching include in the military, special assistant to General Colin L. Powell when the General was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and, in civilian life, chief of staff to Powell when he served as U.S. Secretary of State.

Mitchell Rabin, as with so many others, has been alarmed and appalled at the degradation of discourse in this country and in today’s show, he reviews what he sees as the causes of this and the relationship that has been emerging between fact and fiction.  There is no naivete here regarding the fact that governments and Presidents have been lying for centuries and that this is not a new problem.  But there is a level of scale and context for review.  

There is a horribly disrespectful, undignified “in-the-face” quality of it today accompanied with a shamelessness and an impunity that is an effort to move us from “brain to brawn” and when there is a level of hubris as demonstrated in the current Administration, it, not money, ‘trickles down’ and causes serious harm.  A study shows that Trump lies on the average of once every 3 minutes of his talking time.  His identity one may think, is so shaken, he is so close to being publicly ‘found out’ that the line between true and false is completely blurred, even in his own mind.  Unable to distinguish…..which means, among so many other reasons, he is wholly unfit and unqualified for being President.

Mitchell speaks with members of the cast of the hit play The Great Society, David Garrison, Nikkole Salter and Tramell Tillman, playing at the Vivian-Beaumont Theater until Dec. 1.  

The play recreates the Presidency of LBJ especially in respect to his and Martin Luther King’s negotiation around Civil Rights in this country and all of the intense politics and feelings about this, compounded with the major issue of the Vietnam War which LBJ found himself smack in the middle of.

Today, Mitchell interviews neuro-surgeon, world-renowned author Eben Alexander, M.D.

Eben Alexander III (born December 11, 1953) is an American neurosurgeon and author. ... Alexander is also the author of the 2014 book The Map of Heaven which builds on the claims in his previous book, and coauthor of the 2017 book Living in a Mindful Universe which describes his personal journey since 2008.

Dr. Eben Alexander spent over 25 years as an academic neurosurgeon, including 15 years at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.  Over those years he personally dealt with hundreds of patients suffering from severe alterations in their level of consciousness. Many of those patients were rendered comatose by trauma, brain tumors, ruptured aneurysms, infections, or stroke. He thought he had a very good idea of how the brain generates consciousness, mind and spirit.
