What is there to say about Maximum Ride? In this episode, we valiantly explore this bizarre, often cringe-worthy story about children with bird wings. Jenna expresses bewilderment and disappointment with her past self. Megan awaits her very own James Patterson Encounter. We both, simultaneously, imitate the noise of wings slithering out through a person's flesh.

In this episode we talk about Paper Towns, a book that Megan begrudgingly admits she enjoyed! We introduce a new segment called Peeing Around Your Friends. We applaud the realistic portrayal of the high school experience in this story, and we discuss the John Green Cinematic Universe.

Content warning: Suicide is a topic that's brought up in the novel, so we discuss it some throughout the episode.

In our final episode of 2017 we talk about Beowulf, an Old English epic poem, and a bizarre movie adaptation of it from 2007. We discuss Beowulf's unlikely fatal flaw, the up-and-coming new religion "Christianity," and just the overwhelming amount of sex that the movie added to the plot.

Divergent is an intense story that takes some narrative risks. Do those risks always pay off? Listen to find out! Megan gets into some train technicalities. Jenna rails against symbolic hand-cutting. We challenge filmmakers to not put mascara on actresses, for once, god, please.

Content warning: we discuss some instances of sexual assault in the book/movie. It isn't graphic, but if you want to avoid it, it happens from 36:10 - 38:30.

For this creepy Halloween episode, we read and watched Coraline! During our discussion we take several more tangents than usual, and say the phrase "drawing room" more in this hour-long podcast than we have in the rest of our lives combined.
