What does it profit a man to gain the world but to lose his own soul? Can someone claim to know God and still purposely choose against his will? Balaam was a well-known prophet who knew the one true God and listened to His direction. However, Balaam was human and was not perfect, even though he was a prophet. In this chapter, we are dissecting the story of Balaam in Numbers 22 through 25.

When God gives us instructions, he intends for us to follow them. However, we have the free will to decide how or if we are going to follow those instructions. No matter the path we choose, the action will have a result, either a blessing or a curse. Moses was very familiar with these principles and even found himself on the wrong side of them. The time had finally come when the children of Israel were on the outskirts of the land of Canaan. The promised land. They were finally so close to the land that Jacob left all those years ago to make his way to Egypt to have refuge from the famine. The Book of Leviticus. The book raises a lot of questions. What was the purpose of this book? Why is this book in the bible? Why were all these laws given and how relevant are they still? And these are only some of the questions that come to mind when the book of Leviticus is brought up. This book has gotten a bad rep in recent years and its actual purpose gets lost and misconstrued. The book of Leviticus' purpose was God providing a pathway to live amongst his people in a safe way. But to not steal away from the episode that's all I will say for now. However, at the base of the mountain, The children of Israel started to fall into their Egyptian ways. They made a golden calf and began to worship it. This made God very angry.
