In the story of the prodigal son, an estranged son returns to his father after seemingly squandering his inheritance. But instead of being angry with him, the father welcomes him with open arms and announces a feast to celebrate his homecoming.

Similarly, in this world we believe we have run away from home and squandered our inheritance of Love, Joy and Peace. We unconsciously believe that God is out to punish us and that we are not welcome back to our true home.
However, this story from the bible shows that God loves us and will be overjoyed when we choose to return to him.

This is what the father said to his other son who felt jealous about the fathers joy 'You are ever with me, and all that I have is yours, but thy younger brother was lost and now he is found'.

The whole journey is about finding and letting go of the core guilt that is in the mind. It seems hard to detect sometimes, but it's a good rule of thumb; if you are aware of attack thoughts in the mind, there is guilt. Attack thoughts about yourself or others always arise from the guilt originating from the belief that we have separated from our creator.

But the good news is is that neither guilt nor the separation are real. But while we are here dreaming in time and space- Jesus has given us everything we need to awaken. As he says in the supplements to A Course In Miracles;

Prayer will sustain you now, and bless you as you lift your heart to Him in rising song that reaches higher and then higher still, until both high and low have disappeared. Faith in your goal will grow and hold you up as you ascend the shining stairway to the lawns of Heaven and the gate of peace. For this is prayer, and here salvation is. This is the way. It is God’s gift to you. (S-1.in.3:2-6)

Only what is helpful can be said to be real. So if we learn to interpret all situations, events and encounters with Love (Spirit) that is what's truly helpful. And therefore; real.
As Jesus says in a Course In Miracles "It takes great learning to understand that all things, events, encounters and circumstances are helpful. ⁶It is only to the extent to which they are helpful that any degree of reality should be accorded them in this world of illusion" (M-4.I-A)

There is a strong temptation to believe that something outside needs to be different for us to be happy. The ego will always try to have us focus on trying to change the form. But the problem is not in the world. Spirit as always, calls us to go within to reinterpret what we think we see. This is how the mind returns to peace and joy.

From Lesson 268 | Let All Things Be Exactly As They Are

Let me not be Your critic, Lord, today, and judge against You. Let me not attempt to interfere with Your creation, and distort it into sickly forms. Let me be willing to withdraw my wishes from its unity, and thus to let it be as You created it. For thus will I be able, too, to recognize my Self as You created me. ⁵In love was I created, and in love will I remain forever. What can frighten me, when I let all things be exactly as they are? (A Course In Miracles W-268.1:1-6)
