Today we enter the seventh chapter of Luke, where we run across a couple of noteworthy miracles performed by Christ. A centurion’s slave was at death’s doorstep, then along came Jesus to make him well. As was always the case when Jesus performed a miracle like this, there was an important lesson for the people to learn. And that includes us!

Many today are reluctant to adhere to the advice of a doctor, and that can be dangerous. Even more harmful than that is to turn a deaf ear to the Words of the Great Physician! There are so many instances in God’s word where we read of people who were broken, sick, hopeless and out of options and then came Jesus to restore them and make them whole! There’s a great example of this in Luke chapter six. In this case, it’s a man with a withered hand. Perhaps today you can relate on some level? Maybe your life is dry and withering away and you need to be restored. The Lord specializes in that, even still today.

As we look at some of the trademarks of the Pharisees today, we’ll take note of some things we should definitely avoid. The Pharisees had become legalistic, stale, they were just going thru the motions, and mechanical in the way they related to God! And you could say there are many caught up in this still today! This is far from the relationship God wants to have with us. Our focal emphasis will be Luke chapter six. And take some time with us to consider your relationship with the Lord. Perhaps like the Pharisees, it’s not where it should be?

We're in Luke five, beginning at verse thirty-three today. You could say, we’ll be learning what not to do from the Pharisees. You see, these Religious leaders of Jesus’ day were caught up in legalism. They majored on the minors and minored on the majors! That which was spiritual had become a ritual for them. And this sort of thing still goes on today. So we need to be aware of it, lest we get caught up in it ourselves.
