The Washington Post has confirmed hundreds of journalists have lost their jobs with the paper's sports, local news, and international sections, hardest hit.

The paper which is owned by billionaire Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, laid off about 30 per cent of its 800-strong newsroom amid massive annual losses in the tens of millions of dollars.
