Santa Claus (1959) is a Mexican Christmas hallucination where Santa lives in a space castle, monitors children with excessively creepy surveillance equipment, and operates under direct orders from Heaven. Lucifer dispatches his chief demon to Earth to corrupt the children, because this movie treats moral panic like a military operation. Meanwhile, Merlin the Magician runs what can only be described as a full-blown meth lab inside Santa’s fortress, brewing potions like OSHA doesn’t exist. It’s not a film so much as a celestial turf war where science, sorcery, and Christmas cheer are violently incompatible.

Black Christmas (1974) politely invents the slasher playbook and then immediately fills it with obscene phone calls, holiday dread, and a killer who absolutely does not respect personal space. Set during a Christmas break that goes very wrong, the film turns a sorority house into a cozy nightmare where the phone keeps ringing and nobody wants to answer it. It’s tense, grimy, and shockingly restrained, which somehow makes it even meaner. Basically, if Christmas horror has a conscience, this is the movie that stole it and hid it in the attic.
