One of the character flaws that I’ve had to overcome in my life, is anger. Seems that I was born something of a perfectionist, and my favourite saying used to ne ?it’s so hard to soar like an eagle when you’re surrounded by turkeys. But the thing about being constantly angry, is that actually, it drains the life out of you. It is seriously exhausting!

Whether we like it or not, people out there are going to hurt us. It’s just, unfortunately, one of those completely unavoidable realities of life. And as a result, so many, many people carry unforgiveness around in their hearts. I don’t know if you’ve ever thought of it this way, but unforgiveness is downright exhausting.

One of the things that you and I tend to do, is that we appoint ourselves as judge, jury and executioner when it comes to other people’s behaviour. Hmm. The problem with that is that it’s hard work. It’s exhausting.

Every now and then, you and I have a rush of blood to the head, and we decide to go it alone. Yeah! But it generally doesn’t take us all that long to realise that going alone, is exhausting. Maybe that’s one of the reasons that so many people are so tired.

All too often, the things going on in our lives, how we’re feeling, our circumstances, our finances, other people ? the empirical evidence, shouts at us, declaring that God can’t be real. One of the reason that so many people are so exhausted with life, is that they’re carrying the heavy burden of worry, around on their shoulders. I wonder ? if you know anyone like that. You can’t enjoy life, you can’t find the rest you so desperately need, when you’re carrying around the worries of the world. You just can’t.

So many people are struggling to get enough rest in their lives. One of the reasons for that, is that we think we can burn the candle at both ends, we think we can do it our way. But ? God made us. He knows us. Maybe we need to try, His way.
