We’re joined by Vet, Dr Humphrey Grimmett, discussing why adding long chain oral Hyaluronic Acid (HA) can help balance the body’s HA resources as it naturally depletes with age.

Playing a key role as nature’s ‘sponge’ or shock absorber, HA is a compound dogs produce naturally, but its production slows down with age or after injury. 

This can impact on mobility as one of the main purposes of HA is to cushion the moveable joints, the knees, hips, and shoulders enabling them to move smoothly, rather than becoming stiff and potentially causing pain. 

We chat about other factors that HA contributes to in human’s as well as dogs and of course cats too! This includes eye health and skin health. But Humphrey points out that the HA found in face creams is a short chain form, whereas taken orally the long chain has been scientifically proven to be absorbed more efficiently.

This week we're joined by Ed Bracher, Chief Executive of Dogs For Good, the Charity that helps people overcome isolation, build confidence, and live more independent lives with their dogs trained as a perfect match.

Talking about new figures from the Charity’s Creating Possibilities Impact Report, it revealed after accessing the Charity’s services 93% felt more confident leaving the house, 89% became more independent when getting out and about and 92% reported an improvement in their mood.

The charity’s research also suggests that for every one person directly supported, a further six people benefit through wider family and community relationships, highlighting how dogs can create opportunities for greater social interaction and connection.

Helping to guide them with affordable access to experienced, qualified behaviour professionals offering humane, welfare-centred guidance. It's intended to provide clarity and early support helping families understand what their pets are communicating before difficulties escalate. The aim is to counter the concerning increase in misinformation and a worrying trend to use force and punishment methods to train and rehabilitate, rather than a kinder force free and positively orientated approach.

We discuss why customers often prefer to choose carefully selected brands and spend time in store, feeling connected to the products they’re buying. Amelia has taken the radical step to stand out by only stocking one dog food brand as she is confident Naturaw is the best choice, not just for her own dog. She is passionate about stocking brands that are not available to buy in superstores, and offering an in-store experience, flying the flag as a community led pet shop on Tetbury’s historic market town high street.

We’re joined by Kailey Mills talking about her Hearing Dog, called Buster, a stunning black Cocker Spaniel who has literally transformed her life. After Kailey became deaf, she felt that her dreams of working in engineering were over as everyday tasks were a challenge. After the long wait to receive her Hearing Dog from the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, Kailey’s life turned around. As a deaf and dyslexic mother of three who once believed engineering was "not for people like her" she talks about the assistance dog helping her thrive in a career she never thought would be possible. Kailey, an EICA Design Engineer at Stantec, spent years as a stay-at-home mum before returning to education in 2019. She went on to graduate with a First-Class Honours degree in Electrical and Automation Engineering and is now working towards Chartered Engineer status. Alongside her throughout that journey has been her assistance dog, Buster, who helps her navigate both home and work life.

Pet abandonment has reached record highs, and this week we're joined by Linda Cantle, Director of Operations of Woodgreen, explaining why pet rescue shouldn't start at the point of relinquishment. We talk about the Charity’s hard hitting campaign that revealed why a third of Brits have given up a pet, but nearly three quarters didn't want to!

The charity offers help with behaviour and veterinary costs, and helps pet parents in their homes people in their homes. All to provide necessary support to people struggling.

Their teams aim to keep pets and their people together taking the pressure of re-homing centres already bursting at the seams.
