Biblical Evidence for Sons of God

Genesis 6 intentionally contrasts human daughters with "sons of God"—a phrase Job 1-2 and 38 identifies as angelic beings present at creation. Peter (2 Peter 2:4) and Jude (Jude 6) describe these angels abandoning their proper domain, facing judgment in chains of darkness. Noah found favor as a "blameless" man (tamim in Hebrew)—the same term for unblemished sacrificial animals—preserving a pure human lineage through the flood.

Nephilim and Post-Flood Giants

These unions produced Nephilim, "mighty men of renown" whose influence persisted after the flood. Scripture documents their descendants: Goliath's 700-pound armor and 35-pound spear, King Og's 13-foot iron bed (Deuteronomy 3:11), and tribes like the Anakim that made Israel feel like "grasshoppers" (Numbers 13:33). God commanded Israel to remove this corruption to protect the promised seed line.

All Flesh Corrupted

When God observed "all flesh had corrupted their way" (Genesis 6:12), the corruption extended beyond humanity to animals—explaining the ark instructions to preserve creatures "according to their kinds." This comprehensive corruption grieved God, leading to judgment while preserving Noah's family.

Application for Today

Modern preaching often prioritizes cultural relevance or personal obedience over Scripture's supernatural worldview. Yet Peter and Jude show Genesis 6 reveals ongoing spiritual realities believers must understand. Truth exposes darkness without sensationalism, equipping the church to stand firm in Christ's victory.
