I am excited to have an in-depth conversation about bariatric surgery from a weight-neutral perspective with award-winning, registered dietician nutritionist, Katie Chapmon. She has over 13 years of clinical experience and has helped over 8,000 patients with their bariatric journey.
Today, we are going to be talking all about the nitty-gritty behind bariatric surgery, how to approach it from a weight neutral stance, and, really, how to approach nutrition and “dieting” (yes, the evil “D” word) from the position of self-care and weight-neutrality.
Key Moments in the Episode:
(6:05) Explanation of endocrine system and how that impacts our hunger and fullness.
(9:14) Eating less and working out is not the key to weight loss.
(11:55) Surgery is a handshake deal. It’s not the silver bullet that will solve all your weight problems.
(17:45) A weight neutral perspective on what “success” with dieting and after surgery looks like.
(37:17) Looking at food from a nutrients points of view.
NOTE: There were some audio issues towards the end of the episode. Unfortunately, the audio from Katie’s sign off wasn’t recorded so the episode ending seems a bit abrupt.
