  • A New Approach to Depression with Psychiatrist Dr James Greenblatt
Depression, a disabling illness that threatens to become the major cause of disability worldwide by the year 2020, is surprisingly common, affecting over 15 million individuals in the United States alone. But the statistics regarding recovery are dismal. Standard treatment for depression successfully eliminates symptoms in only 33% of patients, and in roughly 70% of those with depression, it recurs.
In his book, The Breakthrough Depression Solution, today''s special guest Dr. James Greenblatt offers a new approach to this devastating and debilitating illness grounded in personalized medicine. This approach focuses on medicine tailored to each individual. Just as personality and appearance is unique, so are the factors that contribute to depression. Focusing on personalized medicine, Dr. Greenblatt concentrates on nutrition, genetics, stress, and when needed, technology to ensure that medications and treatment are targeted towards individual biochemistry. By identifying and addressing all the factors that contribute, depression can be successfully treated!
James M. Greenblatt, MD, is a dually certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist specializing in treating patients with mood disorders and complex eating disorders since 1990. He is a respected expert in integrative medicine and has traveled through the United States and abroad lecturing to physicians on the scientific basis for the integrative medicine of depression and eating disorders. He currently serves as the chief medical officer and vice president of medical services at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dr. Greenblatt is also an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston as well as Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.

  • Childhood Abandonment Issues in Adulthood with Raising the Bar Host Amy Braido
Are you an adult suffering the emotional impact of childhood abandonment? Does the fear that someone will leave you trigger these old  feelings? Is fear of abandonment negatively impacting your life and all your relationships?
Special guest Amy Braido, host of the podcast Raising the Bar is with us today to candidly share the childhood abandonment issues that she has carried over into her adult life.
Most would describe Amy as an energetic burst of fury, humor, servant leader, and empathetic caregiver.  She's known to put full effort and focused attention into any goal she sets. Yet, she didn't always live this way. Born to young parents, she was primarily raised by a single parent, spent time in foster care, and has felt the affects of being abandoned by her father. She moved often throughout her childhood. Realizing at an early age that adventure and experience comes with their own issues,  Amy demonstrates resiliency more often than not. Hear how her life experience, choices and lessons, have shaped her character and how she is able to transfer negativity into positive opportunities for herself and others.
Amy is a budding motivational speaker, mentor for leadership development, wellness coach, figure competitor, and hosts the radio show, "Raising the Bar", on the Voiceamerica network.  Amy is also co-founder and President of The Echo Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 non profit organization for adoption and orphan care projects in the U.S. and abroad. Echo is currently serving with a partner organization in Ethiopia as well. You can contact her at [email protected] or message her through amybraido.com.

  • The Fear of Failure and Success with Dr. John McGrail
Ask any random group of people what they’d like to change in their life and chances are you will hear a great list of worthy goals: Find a new job, better relationships, make more money, stop smoking, lose weight, build confidence, de-clutter my life, etc. Chances are just as likely that these same people will provide a million reasons as to why they haven’t started doing anything about it yet.   Ask why and you will very likely hear something like, “Oh, yeah, I plan to get to it— tomorrow... next week… sometime, but...”  Famous last words.
Most all of us at some time experience the pain of procrastinating— and it is painful because procrastinating  prevents us from doing or becoming better; from living a richer, fuller life; from attaining goals we know would make us happier and more fulfilled. Why do we do this to ourselves? Most often it's due to a fear of failure or a fear of success--or both! This cycle of chronic procrastination can lead to a spiraling crash of self esteem and a feeling of being unworthy; an abject failure. Thankfully, it is also a cycle that can be broken.
Today's special guest, Dr. John McGrail is more than a clinical hypnotherapist.  He is an established self-improvement expert and a sought after spiritual teacher who has become one of our country’s leading media experts and public speakers relating to personal growth and successful life transformation. His company, A Better You, Inc., serves a world-wide clientele Services range from individual sessions, to motivational presentations, training seminars, and workshops.
This is Dr. McGrail's fourth guest appearance on A Fine Time for Healing

  • The Dark Side of Corporate Narcissism with CEO Kristin Sunanta Walker
Imagine a work environment where you are literally in "eat or be killed" mode, and something as important as your paycheck is involved. This doesn't lend itself to a team spirit environment.
Today's guest, Kristin Sunanata Walker, CEO of Everything EHR says: "What I see in organizations where leadership has created a toxic work environment is the prevalence of health issues from mental decline, eating disorders, anxiety, PTSD, etc."
"Like the toxic village elder that wants no children to go to school lest they become smarter than he or she, narcissistic leaders keep their staff in an ever rotating position of ambiguity, gaslighting, love bombing, and paranoia.  If anyone other than the leader shines too brightly this results in massive narcissistic injury. A beheading is commonplace and the longer the staff continue on in this environment the harder it will be for them to leave.  They do take on the traits of their leader and live in a sheltered yet grandiose bubble of superiority on a ship of fools."
Today Kristin will discuss, among other things, what she refers to as the characters in the Narcissistic Leaders game: The cheerleader, the star, and the doldrums.
Kristin Sunanta Walker is the host of Mental Health News Radio and Mental Health After Dark. Her company everything EHR is dedicated to working within the Behavioral Health technology space helping vendors and mental health organizations create and utilize incredible tools for excellent patient care.  Her book Emotional Impotence will be released in early 2017.
