Shahram Mokri is an Iranian filmmaker. Mokri started his filmmaking training in the Iranian Youth Cinema Society and entered the professional world of cinema with his short film “Dragonfly Storm” (2002). He has since made many award winning films and is known for Fish & Cat (2013), Careless Crime (2020) and Ashkan, the Charmed Ring and Other Stories (2008).

Forty years ago, during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s
regime in Iran, protestors set fire to movie theatres as a way of showing opposition to Western culture. Many cinemas were burned down. In one tragic case, a theatre was set on fire with four hundred people inside, most of whom were burned alive.
