• The veteran suicide rate is approximately 31.6 per 100,000 population, significantly higher than the rate of 16.8 per 100,000 in the non-veteran adult population
• Veterans ages 18-34 have the highest suicide rate among all veteran age groups
• Male veterans are at 1.3 times greater risk than their civilian counterparts
• Female veterans are at 2.2 times greater risk than civilian women
.• Veterans who do not use VA services are at greater risk than those who do
