Diet culture is the pervasive belief that appearance and body shape are more important than physical, psychological, and general wellbeing. It views thinness as the ultimate level of health. We are programmed to view and glamourise weight loss stories not being aware of the methods were healthy. Embracing our bodies means approving and loving your body despite its real or perceived imperfections. Living your best life can require you to choose your own authenticity over others acceptance, embrace your life means being true to yourself, not living by someone else’s rules or expectations.

Be alone. Eat alone, take yourself on dates, sleep alone. In the midst of all this you will learn about yourself. You will grow, you will figure out what inspires you, you will curate your own dreams, your own beliefs, your own stunning clarity, and when you do meet the person who makes your cells dance, you will be sure of it, because you are sure of yourself. In order for any relationship to be healthy, you need to learn to be happy alone. Allow yourself the opportunity to do what you want without worrying about what everyone else might think. The possibilities are endless and so are the benefits.

Taking control of our lives and asserting boundaries, by learning to say “no”, gives us a sense of empowerment. We are living in a “yes” culture, where it’s expected that a person who says yes to everything that comes their way, is a go-getter. We have been brainwashed into thinking that saying “no” will prevent us from succeeding and getting ahead in life. Be assertive and courteous, set boundaries - your time and energy may not meet their request and that is okay. Step out of the “yes” culture.

An intimate moment between you and God. It currently is the most powerful weapon because through prayer we can communicate directly with God, it’s gives us power over all evil, inspires hope, reduces stress and it gives us strength. Prayer energises the heart of the believer through the power of the spirit. Introducing consistent prayer releases the power of God’s blessing in your life. With or without problems, talk to God. Dear God, Thank You.

We’re fortunate enough to be living in a city that really shows off its culinary diversity. All sorts of culinary influences and traditions, from the likes of pap and chesanyama, to food trucks and cute deli’s, to food markets and fine dining. One thing is certain, whatever you’re looking for in Joburg when it comes to food.. you are covered! Truth be told there is no city out there that matches the culinary standards and experience that Joburg has to offer.

Why is it that we’re living in a world where our lives are being threatened by social media standards? FOMO is an emotional response to thinking that other people are living a better life than you are. Somehow it’s created a feeling within us that makes us feel inferior and uncomfortable with the lives that we live.. because we are viewing the fast paced life on social media. Having to always be surrounded by others, being concerned about their opinions and being attracted by the shiny lifestyle that they are portraying on social media platforms.

The strangest thing about being in your 20’s is that you can be so proud of your progress, but at the same time you still feel like you aren’t doing enough. There’s a sense of unpredictability and a true sense of self realisation. Embracing the unknown and learning to accept and love yourself first. Writing down your goals and expectations for the foreseeable future while taking note of your accomplishments and how far you have come. Take those risks and remember to forgive yourself, going out of your comfort zone will redefine your life and your beliefs. Keeping that mind open to new opportunities and ideas. Laugh everyday. Read often. Eat healthy.

I’ve battled with this for years now and I just can’t seem to get the recipe right. I guess that is because there is no recipe or handbook to life and how it should be lived and viewed. This life is ever changing and our identities are constantly evolving, so as a part of human nature, we learn to adapt to our surroundings.
