Juneau filmmaker Scott Burton will premiere his documentary “Earnest Drinker: A Film about Relationships with Alcohol” at the Goldtown Theater on Tuesday, April 21, followed by a statewide premiere on KTOO 360 TV. For more details on the film and its participants, visit earnestdrinker.com.

The members of the Burn Thompson Writers Group are having a poetry reading at the City Museum (114 W. 4th Street) on Saturday, April 18, from 1:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, April 18, Cancer Connection is hosting a one-day workshop for cancer survivors to become volunteer “peer buddies” for other Southeast Alaskans who are facing cancer. The training is full, but will be filmed and made available at a later date.

The Juneau Symphony presents “Elegance & Energy,” which includes the premiere of the overture from the upcoming first-ever Tlingit opera composed by Ed Littlefield.

The Litter Free Juneau Community Clean-up is on Saturday, April 18.

The Early Career Fair, presented by Southeast Childhood Collective, is on Friday, April 17.

The Univeristy of Alaska Southeast Dual Enrollment Progam offers high school students an opportunity to get a jump start on their college career. UAS welcomes registration of high school and homeschool students who are prepared for college-level work. Jessica Dean from UAS, and Nate Dutton from Juneau Schools detail the program options, and how to get registered.

Upates from the Juneau Commission on Aging with Deborah Craig and Linda Kruger. AARP will be holding a fraud prevention presentation at the Mendenhall Library on Thursday, April 16, at 10am.

Death with Dessert from historical slueths Betsy Longenbaugh and Ed Schoenfeld has two more presentations this season on April 11 and May 9. Also, Longenbaugh will be signing her book, “More Forgotten Murders from Alaska,” at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Douglas Library that includes a presentation on the history of Red Light Districts in Juneau and Douglas.

April 02, 2026Alaska Folk Festival premieres ’50 Years of Folk Fest’ documentary

The Alaska Folk Festival kicks off next Monday, April 6, for a full week of music, guest artists, and workshops. In addition, the festival is premiering “50 Years of Folk Fest,” a documentary that chronicles its history and impact. Full details and schedule available at akfolkfest.org.

The Marie Darlin Prize is a $5,000 award that celebrates an outstanding Juneau artist, writer, or performer whose recent work expresses a commitment to the region’s social or cultural history, community advocacy, or Indigenous identity. Applications for this year’s award are due May 1.

Project Homeless Connect is an opportunity for the homeless to receive services and for agencies to connect. Over 30 community service agencies will be represented, with services including haircuts and medical provider assistance. The event takes place at Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall on Tuesday, April 7, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, contact Natasha Jackson at [email protected].
