Ms. Morrison is one of my most celebrated writers in American history. We celebrate her contributions to literature including her vital work in bringing black literature into the mainstream. This month, our topic is Pioneering First Ladies. Our featured First Lady for this episode is Dolley Madison, the woman who defined the role of the President's spouse. Mrs. Madison did so much more than save the portrait of George Washington when the British burned the White House during the War of 1812. She worked tirelessly to promote bipartisan cooperation by providing an environment where members of all parties could socialize, network and negotiate amicably. Take a listen!
