About A Man of Honor
From the publisher's feed
A Man of Honor follows Robert Pagebrook, a young New Yorker whose uncertain future leads him to visit relatives at their ancestral home in Virginia. The Civil War has ended, and old family connections…
are being restored, but Robert soon discovers a society still governed by tradition, pride, social rank, and deeply rooted ideas about personal honor.
When the unexpected failure of his bank leaves him without money and unable to meet his obligations, Robert faces a serious test of character. Determined neither to depend upon his relatives nor to escape responsibility, he must find an honest way to rebuild his life and preserve the respect of those around him.
George Cary Eggleston combines social observation, gentle humor, romance, and moral drama in a story filled with memorable relatives, regional customs, financial complications, and difficult choices. Instead of presenting honor as a grand heroic gesture, the novel examines how it is demonstrated through everyday conduct, loyalty, work, and sacrifice.
This audiobook will appeal to listeners who enjoy classic American fiction, post-Civil-War settings, family relationships, and character-driven stories about integrity and personal responsibility.
