This episode my daughter and I explore the importance of positive attitude and a positive mindset. Our decision to determine whether we can or can’t achieve something or overcome a challenge in our life is key. We are right in either decision we make. If we believe we can’t, we most likely won’t achieve what we want, because our effort will certainly be lacking. If we believe we can, we give ourself a shot and become open to the possibilities for success. Believing we can does not mean it will come to us right away, but it does increase the likelihood that it will eventually. Other concepts and strategies are explored in this episode to move us much closer to being successful.

Moments of disappointment, hurt, missing our mark, or times where our expectations don’t meet our reality, we need to nurture ourselves. In other words, when we’re hurting, we sometimes just need to love ourselves and give ourselves time. What would you tell a friend who was grieving or feeling disappointment? Would you tell that person to just get back in the game without showing any compassion? Of course not. So why do you do that to yourself? Love, encourage, and take care of yourself. You’d do it for the one’s you love...do you love you enough to encourage and take care of yourself? Sometimes we just need time.

We have the power to decide what attitude we choose in any given set of circumstances. We could be left with nothing else, but what still remains is how we interpret life events. Even in our darkest moments, we can place meaning on our suffering and write our story and place it in the context of our life’s narrative. We are conquerors, not victims. We are overcomers, not overwhelmed. Meaning can be derived from suffering and hardship. It is up to us to choose our own way, our life’s path, regardless of the circumstances presented us.

There’s no other place to live than in the present moment. Our most significant hindrance in living our best life possible is engaging in useless emotions, such as guilt, shame, and worry. These emotions are drawn from places and times other than the now. Not only do these useless emotions pull us from the now, but they generate negativity and inject toxicity into the present moment. We experience these circumstances as if they are truly happening right now. They are not. Guilt and shame come from the past and worry is set in the future and what’s to come. To live in the past or future does us very little. The present is our most effective time. Stay in the here-and-now. It’s the only place our great work can be done.

What season are you in currently in? We are either going into a storm, in a storm, or coming out of a storm. That is the human experience. You can learn from all the storms we face. They are rich with teaching us about ourselves. When the storm passes, the sun will shine and you will be stronger, more equipped, and have more wisdom than you did before the storm hit. Love as our source, our sustenance, provides purpose, meaning, and sustainability in all that we do. Love is like water. We need both to live. Without all the elements present, neither exists. H2O is the formula for water to exist. Remove one of the elements, the elements merely stand alone and water no longer exists. Respect, understanding, trust, honesty, and many other elements must be present for pure love to exist. To not have important elements present that make up love, love does not exist. Love is powerful. It is essential for us to be authentic and to live fully. Love must be rooted in all things for us to live fulfilled. Strategies, principles, techniques and philosophies are meaningless if love is not part of our equation for success.

Do you love yourself? Love is action, so when we are asked (or we ask ourself), “Do you love yourself?”, we are essentially asking, “Am I taking action to do what I need to do to lift myself up, to take care of myself, to find joy in my life, to live authentically” and so on. To love ourselves is to act to positively enhance and nurture ourselves. This is NOT selfish. To help others with the greatest capacity, we must have a great capacity to give. We can always help others with the simplest of things, but loving ourselves puts us in position to contribute a great scale and remain fulfilled and not depleted. Love yourself! The more you begin to love yourself, the more love you will have to give to others!

Love can only be displayed through action. Love is not just words. Love is not stagnant. To love yourself or others is to show love or to take action to enhance, to lift up, to support, to be present, to nurture, and so much more. Love is movement in the positive direction. Love does not take away or steal or make yourself or others less. Love is the ultimate goal of the human experience. There is no other reason or motivation to be our best selves or to achieve great things other than the attainment of love. Aligning our life with love as the guide and the source enhances our journey to absolute self-fulfillment.
