  • Powerful, Practical, Real Influence – Dr. Mark Goulston
Everyone things they are right.  It is there way or the wrong way.  And we cannot disagree any longer, you have to be on one side or the other.  So what do we do?  We try to influence people by telling them how misguided they are, how wrong they are, we shame them, guilt them, we call them names, we label them, we put them in categories, and if they still continue in their ways we shun them publicly on social media.  And we think by doing all of this that we are influencing people. The fact is we have not influenced anyone.  We have not won anyone over, in fact we have drawn the line.  Instead, we feel safely tucked with our "we agree with you friends" who are cheering you on making you further believe that what you are doing is the "right" thing.  But in reality it only separates us further.
In this episode of A New Direction world famous psychiatrist Dr. Mark Goulston joins the show and practically and powerfully demonstrates with me how "Real Influence" works.  He demonstrates to you that it is possible to completely get someone to remove their own anger and frustration and get them to help you accomplish the tasks that are the best for everyone.  The book, "Real Influence" is powerful in it's own right.  It truly focuses on helping you get of "How do I get someone to do...?"  To "I need your help to ".  Dr. Goulston demonstrates how to move us from "our here' to "their there"...and once you see and feel the power of it, you will become a true...no...a Real Influencer.

  • Finding a Business Strategic Control Point that Leads to More Profit – The Carrot and the Stick – William Putsis
There are so many philosophies when it comes to business.  However, when science gets involved and the numbers start demonstrating that that in reality just a few primary components leads to success that's a game changer.  We have all heard of Soft Soap, but did you know that the reality is that liquid soup was patented in the 1800's, but it wasn't until 1980 that it was finally being used.  So by now the patent had run out.  What do you do to keep other people from entering the liquid soap market or at the very least make it difficult for them?  Well what Minnetonka (owner's of Soft Soap) did was since they could stop other companies from producing liquid soap, they would just buy all the pumps for the soap in the world!  Yes, in the world!  So if you are someone else you have a ton of liquid soap, but there are no pumps...that is what Dr. William Putsis refers to as "The Stick" - That strategic control point that gives you a market advantage and ultimately leads to more profits.
In this episode of A New Direction, Dr. William Putsis, one of the nations leading economists, and best selling author of "The Carrot and The Stick: Leveraging Strategic Control for Growth" takes through the power of have a strategic control point ("the Stick") and understanding the power of employing incentives to both suppliers and customers in your business ecosystem.  Does it all sound a bit overwhelming?  Don't let it, Dr. Putsis provides example after example to help you understand how to apply these principles to your business so that you can create leverage in your market and obtain greater profits.  The Carrot and the Stick not only a powerful read, it will be one of the best investments you can make for your business.

  • Unlearning Anxiety and Depression – Dr. Joe Luciani
Dr. Joseph Luciani Best Selling Author Unlearning Anxiety and Depression on A New Direction
When it comes to anxiety and depression the one thing is for certain, they can be paralyzing to the people who experience it.  And the truth is at one time or another we will all experience both during our lifetime.  But what if I told you that Anxiety and Depression (at least the mild to moderate forms) were a habit?  A learned thought pattern and set of behaviors that are more like reactions to control the insecurities that we have learned since our childhood.  And one fact is for sure anything that has been learned can be unlearned.
In this episode of  A New Direction, psychologist Dr. Joseph Luciani takes us through his successful methodology of helping clients overcome their anxiety and depression.  In his book Unlearning Anxiety & Depression: The 4-Step Self-Coaching Program to Reclaim Your Life, Dr. Joe takes us through how the brain can actually change as we learn and unlearn specific habits.  Especially those prevailing thoughts that seem to intrude on us that we try to do all sorts of things to distract ourselves from.  In Unlearning Anxiety & Depression, Dr. Joe describes a self-coaching, mind-talk technique to take on our child-reflex habit loops, build self-trust, and ultimately take that leap of faith and resolve to help us live a truly free life and live it in the present.  Even if this show isn't for you...share it with a friend.

  • Live to Forgive: Moving Forward When Those We Love Hurt Us – Jason Romano
Jason Romano Spectrum Sports - Former ESPN Producer
There are so many around us who have lived a life with an alcoholic and abusive parent, or spouse.  Perhaps you have been the abuser, maybe you are still living a life of abuse.  Abuse does not have to be physical.  Sometimes the abuse is verbal.  A mean spirited lashing out.  But the truth is abuse can be in many forms and those who are being abused can fall into a victim mentality.  How do you move forward?  How do you heal?  The fact is the anger and the pain is real, and that's okay...but you cannot stay there forever.  If you want to get through it you have to Forgive to begin the process, yes I said process of forgiveness.  Yes, we must forgive if we truly want to live a free life from the pain.
No one knows this better than former ESPN producer Jason Romano, for 17 years Jason worked for the world wide leader in sports on such programs as Game Night, Monday Night Football, College Game Day, and more!  However, his life from the time as a little boy to his work with ESPN was be riddled with an alcoholic father that would verbally abuse him every time he would drink.  A father that missed his graduations, his marriage, his own parents anniversary because drinking consumed him.  In this episode of A New Direction Jason Romano takes us through his life of Live to Forgive: Moving Forward When Those We Love Hurt Us.  We even talk about the reconciliation that is still occurring with his father today who has been sober for going on 7 years.  Live to Forgive is not only a great story it will inspire you and change you from victim to victor.

  • Choosing Discomfort for Leadership & Success – Green Beret Jason Van Camp
Maj. Jason Van Camp, Green Beret (ret'd)
When it comes to Special Operating Forces there is a phrase commonly used, "embrace the suck".  The idea that you are in the midst of horrible circumstances you have to decide if you are going to make through this adversity, you have to sit in the middle of this discomfort so that you can come through it in the end.  Now let me ask you this, if you want to be Leadership and be successful will you deliberately choose discomfort?  Or are you trying to find a way around the uncomfortable so that you can do only what you like to do.  The fact is if you look at the most successful leadership in the world and our military special forces they intentional choose the difficult course.  Why?  Because success is about doing the hard things, the things you don't want to do, doing the things you hate, and using that energy as a catalyst to propel you to even greater success.

  • Leading The Demotivated Employee – Dr. Tara Peters
How many times have I been asked, "how can I motivate my people"?  It is question that is asked of every coach.  As a coach we typically do not give an answer because we know you are not ready to hear the truth.  And even if we were to tell it to you, you not only have a reluctance to believe it, but you also get angry with us when we say it.  And that is what Dr. Tara Peters and Dr. Cathy Bush have answered that question in their book "The Demotivated Employee".  Here is the answer that they so brilliant explain in the book.  Ready?  It's the wrong question.  It's not how do you motivate your employees, it is how you stop demotivating your employees!  Ouch!
