It can always be easy to feel overwhelmed but 2020 has made it especially easy to feel that way. Still, even though nihilism may offer temporary comfort from despair (in an odd ironic way), you hold more power than you let on. Trust me, I too have been in those moods where I think nothing matters because I can't do anything about it. But while you or I may not be able to solve all the big issues, we must start recognizing the affect we can have through small and sometimes seemingly insignificant actions. Whenever I get frustrated I try something that I think adds some positivity to the world. In this episode I share a few of mine. That's not to say you have to do those. The great part is you get to define that for yourself. Any action helps. It truly does. R.B.G. is dead. It's easier to read that and despair because of how iconic she was and what she stood for in life. But we CANNOT despair. She fought until the end and now the baton is ours. We must take it. Things may seem futile BUT there are options. That is the aim of this episode. To provide calmness and give you those options. Am I an expert? No. There are far smarter and better people than me. That's actually one of the things I encourage you to do: look for them and in fact share those resources in the comments down below so we can create a list. With my words, I want to inspire and galvanize you into action. Because the options we have are meaningless without action. I've seen a wide range of reactions to this news online and I wanted to offer up my thoughts on this bit of news. As part of my regular job, I edit goop's podcast. A recent episode I worked on was with guest Christian Busch, who believes that luck may not always be circumstantial—and that by training ourselves to see something in the unexpected, we can make those accidents more meaningful. It's where you right down all the seemingly happenstance moments of your day without judgement so you can start to recognize what IS actually happening in your life. Because so many of us complain nothing ever happens BUT SOMETHING IS ALWAYS HAPPENING. We just need to remain present to see it. So that's what I challenge you to do—to start writing down all those moments IN a serendipity journal. See how it works for you. Once you start being more present, then you can kick it to the next level by setting intention as Joe Dispenza writes about in Becoming Supernatural (http://www.becomingsupernatural.com/). No matter our primary creative discipline, we all have a need for graphics of all kinds (thumbnails, social media posts, flyers and promos, etc). Throughout human history, the great thinkers and philosophers have always touted the benefits of silence. Yet today I find most of us seek to constantly distract ourself with more and more sounds. Whenever we work, we have TVs blaring. Or we crank up the bass on our already loud music. Why? What makes us so incapable of sitting with our thoughts? I believe in the power of mediation, prayer and journaling but it means nothing if you don't carry the benefits and ideals of those into other practices of life. Silence is a tool I use to stay focused, grounded and in the moment of my day to day. It has tremendous positive impact on my life and it can have the same for you if you cultivate more quiet moments in your life. In this episode of my vlog I talk about progress on a friend's project that came seemingly out of nowhere. Then I talk about the depths of creativity, a thought I had as I continue to write my next feature film. Plus I discuss a strategy I will employ once the script is written in order to make it better/tighter.
