A Pint With Seaniebee episodes

  • Episode 138 - Roger Burton has a pint with Seaniebee
From humble farming beginnings, Roger Burton’s career took him from selling antiques and clothes at Leicester Market, to one of the leading voices on the UK fashion scene. He had a huge role in the styling of early MTV videos and movies like Quadrophenia and Hackers, and is also the driving force behind the restoration of The Horse Hospital complex in Central London, where his huge clothes archive is currently housed. We discuss why Levis 501s are still one of the world's great icons and why fashion today is generally so blancmange and utterly lacking in shock, attitude or rebellion.

  • Episode 136 - Tim Lindsay has a pint with Seaniebee
After 9 years as CEO, Tim Lindsay recently assumed the Chair of D&AD, the world’s premier advertising awards organisation. With over 800 shows worldwide, and almost 1000 awards on offer at Cannes this year, we discuss whether award-bloat has jumped the relevance shark. We also debate the general health of the business and what the industry could be doing better to not only fix its ongoing diversity problems but also, the wider consumption-driven issues that blight the planet. It is becoming increasingly apparent that the world could do with a “Live Aid moment” perhaps driven by the world’s top advertisers.

  • Episode 135 - Wilfrid Wood has a pint with Seaniebee
In the week that saw the happy announcement that Spitting Image is returning to our screens, we are joined by one of the original crew (he made Rolf Harris). Wilfrid Wood is one of the pre-eminent sculptors (not the Rodin type) and modern artists working in Britain today. His work is unique, playful and often ironic, especially his 3D portraits of the likes of Macca, Wazza, Bojo and Greta. He is also known for his superb caricatures. Amongst lots of other things, we discuss what it means to be beautiful and the current craze for over-doing the old makeup.
[Oh, and correction: It was Cheryl Cole whose waxwork was recently removed from Tussauds. Seaniebee would like to apologise unreservedly to Sheryl Crow (who is probably too classy to have ever had one in the first place)].

  • Episode 130 - Denis Buckley has a pint with Seaniebee
"I’ve always believed that you’re just trying to create one
[important] work in your lifetime, it just takes all your fucking
lifetime to try and achieve it."
Filmmaker, artist and writer Denis Buckley was raised in the repressive, hypocritical, religious Ireland of the 1970s. His only respite came from the Cinema Paradiso-esque joy of film at a local cinema. The early death of his father caused him to rebel and escape the country at 20 and he has lived and worked in London ever since.
We discuss what it means to be Irish and the ideas of national identity and fidelity to one’s country as it applies to the growing global populism and isolationism. He also shares his profound wisdom on the role of the artist and art in today’s society. His new project, which explores the immediate aftermath of the Grenfell fire, opens at Galway 126 on September 6th.
