Adman, podcaster, radio presenter, author, storyteller and all-round witty raconteur, Denis Goodbody joins the pod to discuss the issues of the day. Born in Dublin into a Quaker family, he shares the history and tenets of his faith within a wider discussion on religion. We also ponder whither capitalism through the micro-lens of Ireland’s current problems; why we perhaps should look to Scandinavia for pragmatic solutions to rising inequality; and how the world would be a much better place if we all live by one simple word: Kindness.

  • Episode 157 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 9 Kieran McGowan
The Don continues her countdown (at 46m) with Kieran McGowan - a true gent, and one of the fathers of Ireland's economic development boom over the last 50 years. We also discuss the latest from the thought police, cancel culture and identity politics; the death of Big Jack; the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell; the hot mess that is the Kanye presidential bid and why many Irish Americans are hijacking the old country to promote their inherently racist ideology.
    ------------------------------------------------------
Kieran McGowan has a Pint With Seaniebee
Today’s pod is the story of how Ireland emerged from sleepy agricultural backwater, to the modern, first world nation it is today. For over three decades, Kieran McGowan was one of the architects of this transition in his position as head of the IDA – the body responsible for attracting overseas investment and bringing jobs to the country. From humble, working class beginnings, he shares what it was like growing up in Dublin in the fifties and sixties; the corruption and graft that so blighted the seventies and eighties; and the subsequent boom and bust of the “Celtic Tiger.” We discuss lessons learnt (and not!) and what can be done to fix today’s Ireland, which appears bereft of creativity and perhaps mired more than ever in procrastination and political inaction across so many important socio-economic issues.

  • Episode 156 - Richard Watson has another pint with Seaniebee & The Don
Following his inclusion last time at number 10 in The Don’s Top 20 Countdown, and due to popular demand, the futurist, Richard Watson returns to give us his take on the pandemic and how the world might change as many economies take their first tentative steps in opening up. We speculate on everything from Black Swan events like God or aliens appearing and more practical things like the BLM movement as a potential antidote to identity politics; continued erosion of privacy; curing blindness and whether it’s actually even worth fretting over things anymore in this increasingly crazy world.

  • Episode 155 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 10 Richard Watson
With all the mayhem in the world today, it's interesting to go back two years to listen to the thoughts of a futurist back then and how he saw things unfolding. In the intro, The Don and Seaniebee also discuss how one might procure a lock of Donald Trump's hair in order to make a voodoo doll...plus: the magic of Pennys; why the left is continuing to disappear up its own arse; and how the far right have been gifted Harry Potter in the latest advancement of the identity politics wars.

  • Episode 154 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 11 Cheryl Sharp
With COVID19 continuing its federally down-played rampage, and two days after the horrific George Floyd murder, the wheels continue to fall off the clown car that is Donald Trump's America. Seaniebee and The Don take off the gloves to call out the relative ambivalence, inaction and lack of urgency that seems to permeate those educated Americans who appear content to continue sleep-walking their way to four more years of the current regime.
There follows a pertinent interview with Cheryl Sharp, who was sounding the warning bells four years ago, prior to Trump being elected.
    ************************************
Attorney Cheryl Sharp - the Deputy Director of The State of Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities – joins the podcast today to discuss all that ails America: how Donald Trump is providing permission and voice to racism; why we should retire the ‘N’-word; the debate on guns and cop-killings; why Seaniebee cannot continue to blindly hire women; and why being a civil servant doesn’t necessarily have to be a dead-end job bereft of creativity.

  • Episode 153 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown - 12 Tadhg O'Donoghue
The first non-face-to-face episode ever (and boy can you tell): The Don and Seaniebee talk their new movie script - Paddy Kavanagh Ha Ha Ha - and she introduces the wonderfully wise Tadhg O'Donoghue who grew up on a remote Irish island off the coast of Ireland in the middle of the last Century.

TADHG O'DONOGHUE HAS A PINT WITH SEANIEBEE
For the final podcast of 2016, we get a fascinating insight into what it was like to grow up in Ireland in the middle of the last century. Tadgh O’Donoghue was raised on Valentia Island in the Kingdom of Kerry; graduated from UCD, and eventually became a partner in PWC where he played a pivotal role in attracting foreign investment into the country. Like most Kerrymen, he is a Gaelic football fanatic and tells us all about the most popular sport in Ireland. We also discuss the future of capitalism and the factors that lead to economic crashes, the rise of Trump, inequality, and the current populist dissention that is spreading across our world.

  • Episode 152 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown - 13 Gaia Mother Sofia
THE DON: There's nowt as quare as folk. A perfect antidote to the boredom we're all experiencing and an exercise in being able to entertain dissenting voices, even if they dissent from your own.
Keep asking questions though, even of the questioners.

Gaia Mother Sofia has a pint with Seaniebee
    (Interview begins @22mins)
In 2014, Sofia Hayat received a divine calling, revealing to her that she was the combined incarnation of The Virgin Mary, The Goddess Isis and The Goddess Sophia. The Indian born, former model and actress, turned her back on a glamorous career, became a nun, and changed her name to Gaia Mother Sofia. Sacred information received from angelic realms (through ayahuasca ceremonies) bestowed upon her gifts of telepathy, clairvoyance, healing, communication with the dead, and space travel through time.
She believes mankind has evolved to a robotic state of amnesia, with the earth raising her vibration as a result. Her prophesy reveals the coming fifth dimension and awakening of humanity through a tumultuous, visible and unequivocal supernatural event scheduled to happen next month, around the Christian Easter period and preceded by her giving birth to ‘unconditional love’ on April 4th 2017.
We discuss the relationship with Catholic Marian apparitions (such as those at Garabandal); how The Vatican is withholding information on the fate of humanity; links to the Nag Hammadi texts; the recent decline and suppression of the illuminati and reptilian entities (led by Queen Elizabeth); and the role the Egyptian pyramids play as cosmic timekeepers.
Her sacred knowledge also maintains that Donald Trump may actually have been sent to save the world; that ISIL/ISIS/Daesh and terrorist attacks are all faked; and how incarnations of Jesus Christ and many of the ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses are all living here with us on earth today.

  • Episode 151 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown - 14 Dave Richeson
THE DON: I have a low tolerance for a lot of that mindfulness, Kumbaya bollocks but this was an intelligent conversation. A lot of philosophy I think could be useful at the moment. Right now is a good time to be thinking of the meaning of life.
    ALSO IN THIS EPISODE:
How we all need to be thinking about what the world can be moving forward in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. How might major industries like sport and advertising make significant changes when the capitalist tap is turned back on?

    (Interview begins @42minutes)
When Dave Richeson was eleven-years-old, he was accosted and almost shot dead by eight cops when leaving his Dallas hotel room to go to the swimming pool. He has been at police gunpoint twice since, for no other reason than the color of his skin. Today, he spends a lot of his time intelligently and powerfully advocating against America's still-deeply-ingrained racism; promoting Black Lives Matter and railing against the continued senseless killing of blacks by law enforcement officials.
Recorded prior to this week that saw two more slayings in Minnesota and Louisiana, and culminated in the murder of five police officers in Dallas; we discuss the way race relations is getting worse and examine what needs to be done to fix implicit racial bias in the country.
Dave is also a former money trader who chucked a high-powered job to set up a theatre company and pursue acting and creative writing. He currently works in PR and is a member of The Institute of Hermetic Philosophy. Set up 50 years ago by Chilean philosopher, Dario Salas Sommer, it is an educational program that believes in promoting the power of consciousness in today’s society. Throughout our lives we are programmed and conditioned to believe certain things which tend to cloud our interpretation of reality. Becoming ‘more conscious’ involves removing all this coagulated mental ‘gunk’; experiencing life and nature with a greater sense of truth and self-awareness; and eventually finding what it is you’re supposed to be doing with your life.

  • Episode 150 - IN MEMORY OF PETE DUNNE (RIP)
The world lost a legend last week. A man who, in his own words, was oscillating on a different frequency. Pete Dunne was an artist, singer, storyteller and raconteur. He decided to hitchhike from London to Afghanistan in 1977, and spent ten years as a Celtic Sadhu wandering Indian Himalayas, allowing the universe to provide for him, which it always did. Pete was a kind man. A kindred spirit, but so much braver than I could ever be. I only met him in the last two years of his life. But I am honoured to have known him. Pete got married to his beloved, Gilly Kelly Dunne the week before he died. My heart and love goes out to her and all those who cherished him.

  • Episode 149 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown - 16 Šejla Kamerić
Writer and "craictivist", The Don continues her top 20 picks from the first 144 episodes of A Pint With Seaniebee.

THE DON: Kind and fearless, Šejla used her art to navigate herself through the dreadful atrocities of the Bosnian War.

Šejla Kamerić has a pint with Seaniebee
One of Europe’s foremost visual artists joins the pod to share her life journey. Born and raised in Sarajevo, art has been a central part of Šejla’s life since childhood. An introvert, she used her work to communicate and share the loss, horror, sadness and personal tragedy of the war, as Yugoslavia fractured and split around her.
Often controversial, we discuss the motivation behind many of her works including the famous “Bosnian Girl” (2003) tinyurl.com/z2wna33 and the ambitious “From One, Learn All” (2015) tinyurl.com/jbotsgs – a forensically-driven memorial to Bosnia’s wartime lost and missing.
We also discuss the importance of struggle in the creative process; the role of art in changing behavior and attitudes; and why looking at life in the simplest terms possible, may be the secret to surviving today’s rather pessimistic world.
