  • Episode 167 - IN MEMORY OF DAVE BUCHANAN (RIP)
Earlier this month, the advertising world lost one of its true legends, and Manchester United one of its greatest ever supporters with the passing of Dave Buchanan. Dave was one of the genuine good guys and a great friend to all those who adored him.
    May he rest in peace.

DAVE BUCHANAN HAS A PINT WITH SEANIEBEE
In a week that finally saw the demise of Martin Sorrell, we are joined by veteran, UK adman Dave Buchanan to bemoan the general decline of the ad business over the past 20 years. Born and bred in working class Manchester, we chart his life journey framed by a love of Manchester United that saw him attend almost every game (home and away) over two decades. We also discuss the racism endemic in football during the 1970s and 1980s and how the sport has changed down the years; the potentially debilitating consequences of the relentless march of unchecked technology; and how many creative University courses’ preference for conformity tends to crush the creativity, free spirit and hunger in their students.

CARRIE REICHARDT HAS A PINT WITH SEANIEBEE
Carrie Reichardt is a multi-media artist and one of the UK’s leading, most authentic and anarchic art activists. She talks openly about her battles with mental illness and her challenging, shocking and destigmatizing related artworks; her work to bring creativity and dignity to Romanian orphans; and the astonishing story of her befriending inmates on death row in Texas, which led to her attending an execution in Huntsville and a subsequent fight against the inhumanity of capital punishment. Carrie believes that creativity is what gives us our humanity and our sanity; in art as a form of therapy to deal with emotions and life-changes; the importance of empathy; and in using provocative, boundary-pushing, irreverent and often politically incorrect expressions to engender meaningful reaction, response and change.
In 2017 she was appointed the first ever visual artist for Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust; and has also spent the last 21 years mosaicing the outside of her three story home in Chiswick.

  • Episode 165 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 4 Ben Jones
The Don and Seaniebee deliver their US Election post-mortem and discuss why so many people voted for more of the same from Trump and how the trajectory "The Left" is taking right now may be doing more harm than good. The Don also continues her top 20 "best of" with technology and blockchain specialist, Ben Jones.
    ***********************************
Ben Jones is all over the future of technology. As the founder of Bull In a China Shop, he advises brands and organizations on how best to navigate what’s next. He joins the pod to explain the workings and importance of the emerging Blockchain phenomenon and how the Internet has been hijacked to the point that its founder, Tim Berners-Lee, has recently re-emerged to try and course-correct his invention. We discuss the possible future of Facebook and why it may come crashing down; how we are all heading towards a “glassless future” with chips in our brains; and we speculate on which person might best represent the achievement of the human species over the past century.

The ironic trolling group - The Temple of Satan - have come up with seven rules for living without Religious dogma. (Check out the movie, "Hail Satan")
    THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS
    I. One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
II. The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
III. One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
IV. The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
    V. Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
VI. People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
VII. Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

  • Episode 161 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 5 Craig Smith
As they prepare to go off the booze for a month, The Don and Seaniebee discuss addictions: from alcohol to gambling to religion before introducing number 5 on her Top 20 Countdown.
    ***************************************
Craig Smith has a pint with Seaniebee
Probably the most candid, humble, philosophical and emotional episode to date; the pod with Craig Smith is a no holds barred descent into the madness of drug and alcohol addiction, suicidal thoughts and how to emerge stronger from such darkness.
From almost being a professional footballer with Sheffield United and a soldier with the British Marines, Craig tells his amazing story of growing up in the class system, getting away to see the world, rising to become one of the world’s great admen, only to see it all eventually unravel before his eyes.
We learn a good rule of thumb is to never die on your own doorstep; why the journey is essentially one of finding your true self; and why your life is usually never as bad as your mind might be telling you it is.
Craig is a man who has thrown his many regrets into the chasm of the past and really worked hard to come out much stronger and more vital. He approached this chat with a desire to be totally open about his difficult experiences in the hope that his learnings and experience may be helpful to others going through the same thing.
Today Craig runs www.smithandko.com with his wife, and this spring they welcomed their first child – Scout Hana – into the world.

  • Episode 160 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 6 Seoirse & Gerald
In the aftermath of the arrest of "respected journalist" and far-right-activist, Gemma O'Doherty, we discuss the worrying rise in numbers of those buying into her conspiracy-theory and racist driven drivel. Seoirse & Gerald have a pint with Seaniebee
Seaniebee’s father has been one of Ireland’s pre-eminent ventriloquists for the past six decades. On the occasion of his 82nd birthday, Seoirse (George Boyle) joins the pod with his sidekick Gerald to share their adventure stories down the years. We discuss what it was like growing up in Dublin during the War and how his love for ventriloquism bloomed, as he made his fist dummies from papier-mâché and daub. Seoirse and Gerald represented Ireland and reached the final on The Original Gong Show with Ted Mack, and were the opening act when Ireland’s TV station RTE launched in 1961. George dovetailed his ventriloquism with a successful career in engineering and shares his wisdom on the current state of the world and ideas on how we might get back on course.
Oh, and we mostly discuss how amazing it must feel to have fathered Seaniebee!

  • Episode 159 - The Don's Top 20 Countdown: 7 Antonio Fernandez
In the aftermath of the death of John Hume, The Don and Seaniebee attempt to explain the history of the Northern Ireland situation and why he mattered so much to the world.
And there is an amazing interview from the archives with the head of one of New York's most violent crime gangs.
    ****************************************
Antonio Fernandez (KING TONE) has a pint with Seaniebee
This is an astonishing story of redemption and by far the most controversial and polarizing guest we’ve had on the show so far. Antonio Fernandez, aka KING TONE, is the former leader of The Latin Kings, the largest Hispanic street gang in the US, with over 50,000 members worldwide. Growing up in a Brooklyn ghetto, he left school at the age of 9 to become a drug dealer and begin a life of violent crime that eventually led to crack addiction and him being incarcerated whilst still in his teens. In Riker’s Island he joined The Latin Kings, at the time a primarily prison-based gang that eventually transferred itself out onto the streets of New York, where they quickly became one of the most vicious and feared operations in the city. Antonio recounts how he set out to transform the gang away from crime and into a political movement, fighting for social justice for all Hispanics. A disbelieving NYPD called him ‘a gangster with a PR campaign’, and so began a long running feud with Mayor Rudolph Giuliani that ended with King Tone being put away for 13 years.
In addition to his extraordinary story, we discuss how Donald Trump might feasibly be leading America towards another civil war, and how it is now time for all marginalized groups to come together and ACT to combat the growing divisiveness across the country.
