Marcus and Jack tackle episodes 5 and 6 of Sailor Moon this week. Episode 5 - Scent of a Monster: Chanela Will Steal Your Love has Usagi battling an evil pet shop owner as the audience learns about her traumatized younger brother. Episode 6 - Protect the Melody of Love: Usagi Plays Cupid tells the story of successful jazz musician Yusuke Amade after his new hit single becomes the target of an intimidating monster made of bats. These two episodes have Usagi learning more about her powers and thinking more on her own without the assistance of figures like Tuxedo Mask.

For the second episode of A Podcast by Moonlight, Marcus and Jack talk about episodes 2-4 of Sailor Moon. The clumsy heroine faces off against zombie middle school students, a hot new DJ, and the patriarchal expectations placed on women's bodies. There are many things to say about Sailor Moon, but the anime certainly goes places!

Marcus and Jack kick off their viewing experience with the very first episode of Sailor Moon! This episode consists of the pair watching the first episode titled, "The Crybaby: Usagi's Beautiful Transformation." The episode originally aired in 1992 for Japanese audiences, but didn't receive an English dub until 1995.

Incidentally, the first episode of Sailor Moon was directed by Junichi Sato, a talented individual in the world of animation. He is perhaps best known to western audiences as the storyboard artist for Neon Genesis Evangelion and its associated films. He's also worked on long-running series like Sgt. Frog and Aria. He's a heavy-hitter, so it was interesting to see his name attached to Sailor Moon!

We had a ton of fun recording this episode. We hope you all enjoy the series enough to listen and maybe even watch along with us!
