  • Trauma Does Not Have To Define You

    — "The pain of life is pure salt – no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains exactly the same. But the amount of pain we taste depends on the container we put it into. When you are in pain, the only thing you can do is enlarge your sense of things Stop being a glass. Become a lake."

Childhood sexual abuse is the most traumatic of all wounds, for it is a betrayal at the very root of our being. It turns us against ourselves in such a way that, more often than not, victims become convinced that the fault is theirs. To find a way back from that injury, to prevail and rise above it, is to do the seemingly impossible. In Anne de Nada's book: Twisted Roots, Standing Tall, she recounts her long dance from the darkness of the soul into the love and light of an open heart, as she courageously heeds her soul's insistence and clears away her legacy of trauma from both infant sexual abuse and incest. Born into both emotional and economic poverty, Anne's early life consisted of only obstacles and challenges. But she never gave up, and she continually trusted in her own guidance, being rewarded with insight and wisdom. Whenever it felt like her life was not flowing, she took that as a sign that it was time to do more healing, clearing away the trauma that lay embedded deep in cellular memory. Anne's story speaks to the gift of grace and the indomitable courage of the human heart. As Anne continued to heal, she discovered many essential truths about life, among them that we are never given something we cannot handle, that life is about manifesting the deepest desires of our hearts, and that the thing we most fear is our own greatness.

Valeria Teles interviews Anne De Nada — the author of "Twisted Roots, Standing Tall: My Journey to Heal, Learn, and Rise from the Trauma of Childhood Sexual Abuse."

Anne de Nada is an author, speaker, artist, poet and advocate for awareness of sexual violence. Having been orphaned and left destitute at 16 years old, she transcended her trauma to attain an education and become a successful businesswoman and world traveler. Today, de Nada is a healer in her own right, and her purpose is to inspire others to heal their lives and to bring more light and love into the world for the benefit of all humanity. She has also written "Whispers of Grace: Volume I" and "Whispers of Grace: Volume II," which showcase her art and poetry.

  • You Can Heal, Be Well, & Embrace Your Life

    — Eddy Wellness was founded by Renee Eddy to create a space where someone can come to heal fully on all levels of their being. Eddy Wellness believes that healing is a journey that has enough obstacles inherent in itself and does not need additional obstacles of having to find multiple providers at multiple locations to meet your needs, often searching in the dark without a light to guide you. Eddy Wellness removes those obstacles by offering holistic treatment in one wellness center so that you are able to heal, be well, and embrace your life.

Valeria Teles interviews Renee Eddy — a Licensed Professional Counselor, Reiki Master, And Speaker

Renee is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Reiki Master based in Norwich, Connecticut. She completed my Master of Science Degree in Forensic Psychology in 2008 and a Post-Graduate Certificate in 2010. Throughout her career she has worked in an array of roles such as community case management, outpatient therapy, partial-hospitalization, mobile crisis, pediatric therapy, program coordination, clinical supervision, and as a college professor, to name a few. She has also had the opportunity to work with people from many different walks of life who have faced a myriad of unique challenges. Her work with each of her clients has given her a deep admiration of the human capacity to change and has helped guide her to evolve as a healer.

She believes that the mind, body, and soul are inextricably connected, and she approaches treatment with that philosophy. She enjoys being able to explain to people why their brain is reacting a certain way to their trauma and to teach them some techniques they can use to rewire it while also helping them make space for the energy shift that is necessary for healing to take place. She has found that when you make the space for someone to heal on all levels of their being, they often meet you there.

Renee believes in the human capacity to heal, and she believes that we are all drawn to that healing and inner wisdom, though we often don't know how to follow it. Healing is a journey that has enough obstacles inherent in itself. It does not need to be further complicated by the difficult task of finding multiple providers at multiple locations to meet your needs, an unfortunate reality for many people who are often left searching in the dark without a light to guide them.

  • Soul Alignment and Conscious Creation

    — The superconscious is so effing powerful that when accessed can tag energy in the field and release the unwanted charge or aspect that is causing resistance to the end result. We can tag, treat, and simply let it release out of the energy field. So powerful! We are focused on the end result, so this is not a form of problem solving, it is conscious creation! You are not broken, you do not need fixing. Period. All of the resistance that has been created for you may have served a purpose at one time as was a form of self-preservation and the path of "least resistance." • Moving Forward & Embracing Life After Loss

    — "Simple pleasures, or even times of the purest happiness imaginable, juxtaposed against moments of almost indescribable pain. As I gaze across the table at my husband and my surviving son, I know with absolute certainty that the three of us, each in our own way, are moving forward and embracing life, which is what I truly believe Kieran would have wanted us to do.

Valeria Teles interviews Margaret Thomson — the author of "The World Looks Different Now: A Memoir of Suicide, Faith, and Family."

Margaret Thomson is an author and journalist whose world was forever altered the day her son Kieran took his life at the age of twenty-two. A medic in the Army, Kieran had been preparing for his first-ever deployment to Afghanistan at the time of his death, on August 28, 2010. Upon receiving the unthinkable news, Margaret and her husband Tim found themselves plunged into what can only be described as every parent's worst nightmare. Lifelong Christians, the couple held tightly to their faith, even as Margaret found herself wondering whether she, too, might someday choose to follow in the path her son had taken. In desperation, Margaret turned to writing, which had long been a constant in her life, as a means of focusing her mind and organizing her thoughts. In itself relatively simple, the act of putting pen to paper—or fingers to keyboard—served almost as a form of therapy, eventually bringing more solace than Margaret had ever thought possible.

A professional journalist whose work has appeared in a variety of media outlets in the U.S. and Britain, Margaret relied on her journalistic training in her search for the deeper truths that she felt certain were lying behind her son's death. "I was determined to put on the armor of the journalist in the hope that doing so would give me at least a degree of emotional distance," Margaret says, "which was extremely foolish of me since there is, of course, nothing in the world that can protect you when it comes to dealing with your own, intensely personal loss."

Margaret Thomson and her husband Tim live in the greater Nashville, Tennessee, area. Margaret is a journalist who's worked in both print and broadcasting. Her written work has appeared in a number of British and American publications while her radio reports have been heard on broadcast outlets including ABC Radio News, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and National Public Radio.

  • Going Beyond The Digital & Into The Spiritual

    — Our future will come from connecting with ourselves and taking the action we feel drawn to. Trust yourself. I'm asking for you to express yourself in your fullest. Because that's what I and the world need. You to be yourself. It is time to take full responsibility for your actions and become curious about the world, more than ever before. It is time to take your life in your own hands, away from the distractions of the past. Put fear aside and let go of the anxiety that complexity can bring. It is time to upgrade yourself and allow your powers to emerge. Build resilience to resist the negative media cycle and the lure of extractive algorithms, and be aware of giving yourself too much choice or too many conveniences.

Valeria Teles interviews Sini Ninkovic — the author of "Untethered: Overcome Distraction, Build Healthy Digital Habits, and Use Tech to Create a Life You Love"

The average person consumes over twelve hours of media per day. Eighty-eight percent of Americans feel uneasy leaving their phone at home. It is all too common to hear that our technology has taken over our lives. But what if the problem isn't your smartphone, but just the way you're using it? After a lifelong struggle with digital dependency, Sini quit his job at Apple to live in a van and begin a long journey toward freedom from technology. But in the process, he learned that the key to inner peace was not found in removing technology from his life, but in rethinking his relationship with it. Along the way, he spoke with countless industry experts, attended intensive meditation retreats, and became a certified Digital Wellness Educator. The tools he discovered were so transformative that sharing them with the world has become his personal mission. In his groundbreaking and practical new guide to digital freedom, tech-guru-turned-wellness-instructor, Sini Ninkovic argues that there are counterintuitive mindsets and methods for transforming your relationship with technology - and your life along with it.

Sini's work and mission is to help you redefine your routines, develop healthier digital habits, and live a more fulfilled life in control of your attention. It will show how your smartphone and the apps on it can captivate you, how you can "upgrade" your mind to move away from this dependency, and these tools will help you regain control over your habitual smartphone usage to create a more fulfilled future.
