With an important Singapore story, familiar xinyao music and a major local production behind it, expectations were high. But for us, Moonlit City missed the mark, leading to our lowest score for a Singapore theatre production to date.

There’s no denying the talent on stage. The vocals are huge, the cast are phenomenal and this production certainly knows how to make some noise. But did it actually blow us away?

We went into Tunggu Sekejap: The P. Ramlee Suite expecting a celebration of one of the great icons of local cinema and music but we weren’t expecting it to be presented quite like this.

Created and performed by Julian Wong (re:mix) and Fadhli Ramlee, this Wild Rice production takes the music and legacy of P. Ramlee and presents it through a concert experience that feels fresh, inventive and completely its own.

We loved the way the production celebrates an important piece of Singapore and the region’s cultural history while finding an exciting new way to introduce and reimagine P. Ramlee’s work for audiences today.

There’s so much to celebrate in this production — brilliant performances, huge energy and plenty of moments that absolutely deliver — but we also wanted to go beyond simply saying, “We loved it!”

TJ & Sam spill the tea on the international tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the Musical, now playing at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands.

Sadly, this one was less golden ticket and more discount ticket.

We went in hoping for pure imagination, but left feeling underwhelmed by the simple set, flat staging and another disappointing international tour at the Sands Theatre.

Was there enough magic inside this chocolate factory? Or did the whole thing feel a little mass-produced?
