Winning The Finest Feathers in the Forest competition was nothing new for Periwinkle the bluejay. Four years of trophiesand the admiration of every bird in the canopy should have made her feel important—but somehow, they didn’t. So Peri kept herself busy, fluttering from one good deed to the next, hoping usefulness would fill the empty space inside. 

In her quest for purpose (and to keep herself busy), Peri accepted an invitation to share a story at the forest children’s hospital.  But no story ideas would come.  As she struggled toprepare, Periwinkle quite literally ran into her favorite author of all time, Quilma Inkbeak.
