We push further into the life-giving truths found in the story of Ruth.  First, Naomi has lost everything, her husband and her two sons.  Humanly speaking, it’s hopeless.  But through God’s unseen hand Naomi’s hope and joy are restored.  But the fullness of her restoration was way beyond what she ever knew in this life.  Then, the book of Ruth reminds us that no matter how empty and barren and hard and painful life may be right now, God is writing his story through you to bring his salvation to the world.  Then we see how one family, committed to the Lord can change the destiny of the world!  And finally, if it seems that God is against you, that he has abandoned you and brought calamity on you, you’re in good company.  That’s how Naomi felt.  And she told the Lord so.  But in the hardest place, God was writing a story of hope for the ages.  And that’s what God is doing for you.  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you will overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).
