Toe Blake was born just outside of Sudbury, he won the Hart Trophy in 1939, led the Canadiens to two Stanley Cups as a player and captain, and then as coach won eight more, including an unmatched streak of five in a row. Yet despite all that, his jersey was never retired by the Canadiens. Dr. Maurice St. Martin from Sudbury has put together a 60-page presentation called “Why Not Toe?”, has spoken with Toe Blake’s relatives, and is campaigning to see his number hung in the rafters. Maurice spoke to Andrew Carter.
