Montreal filmmaker Alexandre Trudeau is stepping into new territory with his first narrative feature, Hair of the Bear, a chilling survival thriller set in the unforgiving wilderness. The film follows a troubled teenage girl sent to live with her grandfather, only to find herself in a life-or-death struggle deep in the woods. It’s a departure from Trudeau’s well-known documentary work exploring global conflict and geopolitics. It’s hitting select theatres here in Montreal starting March 20. He spoke with Andrew Carter.

Aid organizations are sounding the alarm as violence continues to escalate across parts of the Middle East, leaving millions of people displaced and in urgent need of help. Canada’s Humanitarian Coalition, a group of major international aid organizations, has launched an emergency appeal to raise funds for food, clean water, medical care and shelter for civilians affected by the conflict in places like Lebanon and Syria. Anne Delorme, Executive Director of Humanity & Inclusion Canada, spoke to Andrew Carter.
