A Toast to Horror episodes

  • Insidious
In our newest episode, Allison decided to scar Marie for life by making her watch Insidious. This 2010 paranormal horror has scares for days leading up to the climax, but do they fall off when they're needed most? Even though the end of this movie is scary AF, we aren't sure if the sequels are worth a watch or if we should chalk Insidious up to a wannabe Poltergeist. Listen up as we debate whether the ghosts or the worst dad ever is the scariest part of this movie and discuss just how misunderstood the lipstick-face demon is. Paired with a Lipstick-face Demon Cocktail.

  • Nosferatu
On our search to find a scary vampire movie, we had a listener recommend Nosferatu--so we watched it, duh! We always watch horror movies that are recommended to us by listeners (hint, hint)! Our opinions were split on this movie, sorry Bill Skarsgard, our decomposing, mustachioed horror boyfriend! We agreed that the artistry was beautiful and we appreciated some of the unique takes on this old tale, but one of us thought this movie was so boring that no even Willem Dafoe could save it. Paired with The Mustache cocktail.

  • Longlegs
Gear up, listeners, because we are talking about Longlegs--where the titular character is So evil,
Nicolas Cage, who plays him, said he never wants to play a character like that again. This movie takes plot twists to a whole new level and is shot to amp up the scares and tension, but we have some hot takes as well. There were a couple areas where we wanted more from this movie and we'd love to see a prequel to fill in some gaps about Nicolas Cage's character. So Nicolas, please reconsider and do another movie so we can see more of you! Paired with a Birthday Cake Martini.

  • 30 Days of Night
Alright, listeners: we did it! We found the loudest vampire movie in existence and it is 30 Days of Night. The plot of this movie is great in theory: the vampires don't have to hide from the sun for 30 nights so they can raise as much hell as possible. However, there are too many plot holes and bad vampire-ing for this movie to be taken seriously. We found ourselves talking about anything but this movie except when it came to the vampire shrieking. Please enjoy the last unhinged 5 minutes of the podcast where we debate how to say "pull" vs "pool" and please excuse the terrible sound of the last minute and a half (technical difficulties). This episode is paired with a Barrow Blues cocktail.

  • Abigail
Opinions were divided on some aspects of our newest release, Abigail, but there is one thing we agreed on: this movie is very entertaining. We liked how this movie poked fun at vampire lore while giving us a gory take on modern vampirism (love the fangs). Abigail should be watchable even if you're horror-shy, but there is a lot of gore so beware if that's not your thing. At the end of this movie we were left with two main questions: who is the biggest villain and is there a vampire movie out there that's actually scary??? Paired with a nasty Ballet Russe cocktail.

  • The Silence of the Lambs
Get out your Chianti and fava beans because we are talking about The Silence of the Lambs! We are on a feminine rage kick, and Jodie Foster's character, Clarice, totally fits the bill in this film--she's bold, in charge, and a total brave badass (Buffalo Bill would've had another victim if it were one of us). There are too many iconic performances to count in this classic film. You need to watch it to understand the full impact it's had on pop culture and the horror genre. So grab some lotion, dance to Goodbye Horses and cuddle up with Precious to listen to our new episode! Paired with a Hannibal Lecter cocktail.

  • The Substance
This week, we delve into a new movie that is sure to be iconic. This movie is getting Oscar buzz and it totally deserves it. This week we talk about The Substance and Demi Moore's stellar performance. If you haven't seen this movie, don't delay!!! Go watch it right now!!! This movie is so shocking that you'll keep saying "holy shit" over and over again. From the practical effects to the underlying message in this movie, you will be wowed. If we learned anything, it's don't inject anything if it doesn't come with directions. Paired with an Activator cocktail.

  • 28 Days Later
There are a lot of zombie movies out there, but 28 Days Later is zombies with a twist. In fact, an argument could be made that the infected may not be zombies at all (be sure to listen up to hear our reasons)! This movie has some jump scares, but as in all zombie movies, the breakdown of society is scarier than any monster out there. Cillian Murphy is the highlight of this movie! Paired with a Rage Elixir cocktail.

  • Speak No Evil
We have good news and bad news regarding our newest release, Speak No Evil. The good news: this movie is a creative take on an old topic with a badass protagonist. The bad news: those shirtless promos of James McAvoy were kind of misleading. This movie taught us multiple life lessons (listen to hear them all!), but the most important one is DON'T IGNORE RED FLAGS!!! Paired with a Boss Bitch Spritz.

  • The Return of the Living Dead
this week, we are deep diving into one of the spin-offs of Night of the Living Dead: The Return of the Living Dead. John A. Russo and George A. Romero amicably decided to make their own sequels to the classic 1968 horror movie, and this is Russo's wild-ass sequel. We can guarantee that if you are new to this movie, you will never see what happens coming. From naked girls to zombies learning how to use radio systems, this movie keeps you on your toes and laughing. This movie is nothing short of iconic, and the only thing better than its soundtrack (yes, it's 80s synth) is Frank's acting (robbed of an Oscar). Join as we do Toxic As Fuck shots and discuss sentient zombies, pubes, and how bodies should decay.
